I need advice on fluting

Post by Ckanite »

I'm making my first pair of gauntlets and I'm having a bit of trouble with the fluting. It's not quite lining up as good as I had hoped and it's messing with the articulation. It catches a wee bit on the reverse and compression flexes. Can anyone give me advice on solving these problems. I'll try to get pics up, but I've been having trouble with that as well. Thanks guys!! and sorry for being away for so long, school got hectic....

blow like it's the top of a beer bottle. And keep your fingers relaxed unless you are actively pushing down on the keys. Otherwise you get hand cramps.

Hummm is metal fluting different spelled than the wind instrument.

I clamp a RR spike in the vice or use my fluting tool and pound on the top with a nice polished hammer.

It pushes the metal to a crest.

I'm not having trouble making the fluting, just lining up the different pieces so they articulate correctly...

Oh! Then you need an emergency adjustment.
Bolt the pieces together and use some duct tape.

Flute all the pieces over the stake at the same time.
I do not endorse this method but it works on sabatons as well.

YMMV.

You are certainly welcome Ckanite.
That is a quick fix for what should of been taken care of in the first place.

I like to flute each one individually and fit together as the articulation builds up. This gives you maximum control.

I take up the slack and position the lames via the rivet holes.
