Well now that I made one leg of hose I need to hang it. Right now I am going ot tie it off to my braies until I get a better option. But I need to make the attachment holes on the hose itself. So what do I need to be making? I am guessing two holes horizontal? What is the best option for making these holes. That material is 5.3 oz linen and I am hand sewing. It is 14th century Sweden if that matters.
Thanks

Re: Question on hose pointing holes
Use an eyelet awl or a similar tool (something pointy but not too sharp) to push the threads aside, rather than cutting the threads apart. Then, stitch an eyelet or buttonhole-stitch to reinforce the edges; I think http://www.bayrose.org/AandS/handouts/Buttonholes.pdf may have a lot of the information on these.

When I make hose, I use two eyelets horizontal.
I have a demo here:

The article as a whole is aimed at dressmaking, but if you scroll down to page four I have a photo tutorial on eyelets.

Do you not know that in the service... one must always choose the lesser of two weevils?

A lot depends on the fabric. If it's heavy and not loosely woven, you can get away with no reinforcement. With Jeff's melton hose, it's just the single layer of wool. But it's not a bad idea to have two layers where the eyelet is. You could either add another swatch of wool, or just give yourself a good wide hem for a somewhat cleaner look.
ETA: Duh, just read the original post again. 5.3 oz linen? I'd probably reinforce it, just in case. Better safe than sorry with your first pair.

The form fitting around the leg was not too bad, especially since I was blocking myself. Lots of blood rushing to my head as I bent over lol. Attaching the foot to the leg piece was more of the pain. Eventually I just duct taped my foot to get a pattern and went from there.
How far in and down from the point on the thigh do the holes need to be? I was thinking maybe 2cm at the most but I don't want them to tear out if I get too active fighting.
Thanks
