Tabards

Post by Ismaels-Legacy »

Does anyone have an easy pattern for a tabard? I'm not looking for anything specific, just something that looks decent when worn and is simple to sew together. The one I'm working on now is starting to irritate me! :P

Tasha has her Martial Surcotte Tutorial on her website (which I think is cottesimple.com, or it's in the signature line in her posts). What period are you doing?

Do you mean a fighting tabard - http://larsdatter.com/mens-surcoats.htm

or a herald's tabard - http://larsdatter.com/heralds.htm

....

I can only assume the "cut a hole ina tablecloth" method won't suffice...

Though if it will, wear plastic armor in the open near a Laural. Use the tabbard they throw on you as a pattern. :D

Something like this would be perfect. What I'm running into is adding gussets at stress points. Is there a trick to doing this or are they just going to be a pain no matter what I do?

Your image is not appearing for me. Can you confirm the URL and just post it as a string? Maybe I can answer your question/give advice if I have a better idea of what you are looking to achieve.

Here are a couple of layout drawings I did for tabbards/surcotes
