Period demo help needed

Post by dyderich »

Greetings all,

The Barony of Sternfeld has been contracted by the Fishers Sister city organization to be the living history/educational component of the Fishers Renfair. We are in need of more fighters with good kit (bare minimum is crown tourney standards, no visible modern materials). You would earn a share of the fee we are paid for your local SCA group. We also feed you lunch and diner both days.

This is the 6th year that the Barony of Sternfeld and my family has participated. It is hard to express how much fun it is. An average of 1300 people come to the fair and it will seem that all 1300 of them come through our area, visiting our artisans and watching the fighting. Best comment I ever got was "you guys really fight. It's not fake like the other stuff" The best way to describe it is a period event that happens to be next to a renfair.

The Fishers Renfair, www.fishersrenfaire.com is on Oct 2nd,3rd. If you need more information and/or willing to help out, please contact me at:
dyderich@gmail.com or find me on facebook as: Earl Ryan

In Service,

Cpt Dyderich Wolfhart

Just an FYI ... you link has a comma at the end of it which is kinda snafu'in' it.

I plan to be there (1370-1380's on campaign) and will try to bring Master William and/or Sgt Renaude (War of the Roses types) along as well.

BTW, Dyderich dropped a significant digit in his attendance number. The fair averages 13,000 visitors over the two days. Sternfeld, with the help of several friends, has 40 to 50 people in LH or very near LH quality kits demonstrating textiles, woodworking, armoring, cooking and other skills as well as both SCA armored and rapier combat. The cooks feed us both lunch and dinner both days.

Hmmm.....

Contact me. Last year we couldn't come because my wifes dad was in town. He already came up this year, and we are free I think. This is JUST the kind of thing we like to do.

Can we do "backyard" demo stuff and WMA demos?

We'd love to have you & your guys!

Sir Crispin and Will Ransom were doing some Fiore training & practice last year with steel training swords. And while we don't plan backyard stuff, there have been occasions of rather enthusiastic incidental contact.

and we together on some stuff... ( if the smith is willing )

Baroness Moira MacGallivrey (macgillavrey at gmail.com) is the overall coordinator for the SCA part. I don't know who's running the different craft areas (I'm just another fighter for this one).

We have apparently been struck with some Real Life(tm) and have had some guys need to back out. Any armored fighters with fairly historically accurate kit will be GREATLY appreciated. Any European era (keeps within the theme of the faire).

Despite the burn ban preventing our normal in-camp cooking, I will make sure that folks get fed. The Fair pays the Barony of Sternfeld and we share it by participation with any other shire or barony represented. The SCA gets some excellent PR from this fair since we do it at a living history level of authenticity for all non-combat participants and nearly that for combatants.

Aside from the schedule fighting demo shows (2 each day), we can practice in the lists as much as we want. Including WMA(Fiore etc.) training if you want.

If anyone is interested please let me know

Thanks!
