Clip point dinner knives at the Norman table?

Post by Glaukos the Athenian »

ok this is what I just saw.

http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/rmhttp/schoo ... _feast.jpg

4 clip point/curved dinner knives.

1) at the shield table. Pointing to the left. clip point by the guy with the horn
2) on the main table, curved blade first person on the left
3) clip point black knife, by the bearded guy
4) clip point by the guy in red pointing upward...

Are there any material finds of dinnerware from the 11th century?
Other decent illustrations from the same period?

I was inspired by the set being offered in the Classifieds, and I wondered what type of dinner knife was the well-appointed Norman knight supposed to bring with him to dinner...

I can't speak to the 11th century, but clip pointed knives and varients are usually associated with serving fish in later eras at table.
