How much mobility should gauntlets take away?

I got my hourglass finger gauntlets, and I can't even firmly grip a grip in them.
I paid for cheap gauntlets and I got cheap gauntlets, so I expected some short-commings, but they just don't seem all that functional to me.
Do they sound deffective, or is to just be expected?
(other than said issue, they're not bad for the price.)

They're going to limit your mobility to some degree but you should be able to grip the handle of your weapon with them. Where did you get them? Pics?

They are CAS Hanwei's "Churburg gauntlets."
The right one is the more impared of the two, and the glove is sewn in all wierd.
I have some of those.
1. take the gloves out and replace them. They suck and they are sewn in wrong. Also, they have no padding in them, so you would have to remove them to pad the fingers anyway.
2. It is entirely possible that the finger lames are riveted together to close to each other. Depending on the gauntlet you may be looking at removing the lames and riveting them onto some different leather.

hi there
nongrounding finger gauntlets plates attached to leather strips should feel like wearing gloves. if you pad them dont use one long continuous strip of foam. the foam will cause resistance to bending and tire your fingers out. use pieces of foam and leave small gaps so that they bend easily.
articulated gadlings is another story and dependent on the skill of the armourer and pattern as said above.
grounding fingers feel more a bit more clunky due to finger gap between your fingers. your fingers should contact the weapon without the metal touching yet collapse down to the stick when hit.
each type should let you have a regular grip like/almost like wearing regular gloves if the gauntlets are sized and fit right.
gloves: thinner gloves will give you a much better feel yet wont be as durable. thicker gloves last much longer yet will reduce the weapons "feel"
if you are not very strong then thinner gloves are recommended.
lastly all glove seams should be sealed with contact cement for 2 to 3 times the durability of an unseamed glove. your gloves should last one to 3 seasons of weekly use and then you will have to replace them.
happy to answer any other questions or help make suggestions to fix them a picture would really help.

Well, the gloves are fairly thin, and I certianly don't fell like I'm wearing gloves, lol. Even if I did modify them, the finger plates just seem to wide, they're always catching on each other. (Overall, these gauntlets are just bulky and huge.)
I suppose I can just keep them as decorator pieces and make a pair that are more functional.

sounds like they are too large for your fingers.
can you remove the plates the grind them down a bit.
grinding should let you reduce the size in all dimensions without too much effort.

finger plates dont have to be huge they just need to fit your fingers.
