Lightweight utility wagon sets up quickly, holds up to 150 lbs., and folds flat enough to fit in a car trunk, making it the ultimate range or three-gun competition caddie. It’s roomy enough to hold three or more guns, a bench rest, targets, cleaning supplies, ammunition, and more. Why not build a wheelbarrow from the instructions in De Re Metallica?

that is a very period option, I was thinking for those who needed to move armour for fighter practice, demos etc, but needed something small to fit in the trunk of the car.

but yes the goat cart, or wheelbarrow would be better.

Don't you have rather large dogs? Pyrenese right?

I've been threatening to build a dog cart for mine for years now. It's a great solution.

You could build a breakdown wheelbarrow that would probably pack smaller in a trunk than that cart would! (and the *bragging rights* mon!)

I was thinking about some one who's biggest vehicle was a civic, or focus type vehicle.

btw we now have 3 Pyrenees, all sisters.

I was thinking about buidling a hand car to truck around stuff at events. I've seen plans online before, but can't seem to google-fu them now.

Anyone have a link?

My biggest worry is constructing the wheels of course, with my lack of expert woodworking tools and skills.

I've an idea to make the "box" of the cart simply a box, which would not need to be broken down, but have the handles and wheels come off for automobile transport.

Yes, it is. Complete with the costco "it broke, I don't like it"

Of course. Why build a period solution custom to the size of your vehicle when you can just buy a modern anachronistic contraption premade to dimensions you can't change?

Karen those are great examples, thanks.

However, while they are great for inspiration, somewhere on the interwebs were an essay or two on building knockdown handcarts and wheelbarrows to use for events. Once upon a time...

I think some of 'em are linked from the top of that page, unless they're no longer functional links.

The blood and sawdust link is the best so far, but almost a little more woodworking skill than I have.

Thanks again, I'll keep looking.

Did you feel a light breeze in your hair? that was the point of this thread going WAY over your head.

ok, you are going some where for a demo/mini event, and have very little very little room for anything besides your armour in your car, or your brewing supplies/fiber arts etc. that stuff fills the trunk of your car& you have a very small spot that you might be able to shoehorn in a folding wagon of some sort, this might help you, or not.
If this looks like it might help, fine. you're welcome. if not, and all you want to do is be a jerk about it, fine, go kiss the south end of a north bound horse.

good day.

No, I didn't miss the point of this thread. I understood the criteria for the "cart" perfectly fine.

I think:

1. A homemade made cart/wheelbarrow will better suit your needs because it can made specifically for that "small spot" in your car.

2. It will look more period than what you're proposing to do.

3. Discussion of building a period looking cart/wheelbarrow actually fits the purpose of this subforum. Which is for "questions about re-creating, or interpreting, the time period your SCA, LH, LARP, or other group works"
