I have a lady in my wife's household that has a spinning problem, and I thought that a loom might make a good birthday gift.

Does anybody know where I can find plans for, or just good pictures of, a Viking warp-weighted loom?

For someone just starting out glimakra has a very nice band loom that works very well for winingas about $400 in the states probibly cheaper in europe you can probibly build one if you can find plans.
Depending on how bad the spinning problem is a book on lucet, or nalbinding for everone else in the household may also be appropriate.

So who else remembers that Avengers episode: "What are they doing?" "They're knitting a bungalow."

The Warp Weighted Loom (Studies in the History and Technology of an Ancient Implement) by Marta Hoffmann; C 1974The Norwegian Research Council for Science and the Humanities; ISBN 82-00-08094-3

Some of our LSCo folk have them; I've started a couple, but gotten side-tracked over the past 40 years. Alas, none in my family weave.

The videos here have a ton of information, even if I can't understand a single word. Being able to watch the entire process is kinda nice.

I actually have that little Glimakra band loom for sale on my website! http://www.spindleshuttleandneedle.com/glbalo.html

Warp-weighted looms are fun and not that difficult to make.

Another craft she may want to try would be nalbinding or sprang. Both work well with hand-spun yarn and produce nice items.
