Mine were made by Master Knuut not GDFB so I can't help much with the "top or bottom" conversation. My personal guess is the pointy end is the top.

I do not know of any extant pieces showing how they attach at the hip but I have seen a few showing how they are laced up the back. You can see how I recreated it on the second page of the above link. By far, it is the best and most comfortable way of lacing them.

As for as how they attach at the waist I have seen modern artistic re-creations showing that they simply tied on to a small belt at the waist. If anyone has ever worn chausses you will find this to be extremely uncomfortable and you will also find you keep ripping belts or the ties used to keep them up.

The way I rigged mine is much more comfy and adjustable though I am planning on attaching them to a 'C' belt in the near future.

Hope that helps.

The link no longer works--this makes me sad.

Webshots sold to some BS social website company. I am looking for a new place to store my pics. I have used photo bucket in the past but don't like it much. Suggestions for non pay sites?

Should be up early in the new year.

Thanks for all of the information.

I haven't done anything yet - still trying to firmly establish my goals and period look - that will help me determine if I want closed or open chausses, etc.

I had a lot of trouble gettings rings and rivets - I have had an outstanding order at Swords of Might for more than 6 months - now they're telling me that they don't have any records of my order. I had to send them copies of my original invoices. Swords of Might still won't give me refund and I still don't have my rings and they are extremely s-s-s-s-l-l-l-l-l-l-l-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-w-w-w-w-w-w-w at answering e-mails.

I definitely recommend staying away from Swords of Might.

I ended up getting the rings and rivets from the UK.

How do you work on your mail? Did you build a rig to hang the mail, or do you just lay the mail on a table and work on it that way?
