Here's a good source for flint for your fire steel.

Bulk flakes by the pound - the flakes are anywhere from 1 to 4 inches across. They are razor sharp. You can knap them down to more manageable sizes.

No matter how many times you hit it it still won't change the colour! Some of the Flint Ridge OH flint is positively garish!

Oddly enough, I picked up most of mine out of a graveled parking lot at Battle in England (near Hastings). They just smashed-up the local flint nodules; eliminating (I guess) any with sharp edges. I've been using it for years.

Ah, the wonders of the English language. I though you meant the opposite of sharp, not the opposite of colorful!
