Conroi FitzOsbern had a get together/drill weekend. In attendance were Jesse, Glen, Ken, Andy and Andrew. Here are some pictures:

For those movie buffs out there - the saddle on the mule is one of the original saddles used in the movie "The Warlord" with Charlton Heston. The saddle is currently owned by Jesse Bailey.
Enjoy!

Ok, you live in Newnan Right? You want some free press? (I can't guarantee it, but) a very dear friend of mine works for the Newnan times, and if you were having an event anywhere nearby, I could probably get you some press. E-mail me.

As for: Dang! I forgot my wedding ring again. Every time

Ok Glen, I'll bite. Assuming you have a standard gold band wedding ring, what makes it OOP? We know people wore rings, and the ring is not outside of the scope of medieval craftspersons, and you have a hors, a hauberk, etc ergo yuou have some means to your portrayal, so why is it wrong? (I'm genuinely curious)

Well, primarily because it's obviously a modern wedding ring, by which I mean a plain gold band on that specific finger. In my (very limited and very basically researched) understanding, wedding rings have been worn by females for quite some time, but it was less-than-common for a man to wear one until the Victorian era. One source I've seen said that before WWII only 15% of ceremonies were double-ring. Simply put, it was probably not usual 'back in the day', and even though many could explain it away it seems an obvious anachronism to me.

But I sure love Pris. :D

No, but guess who got close enough to catch the spear point coming right at him? Man, camera eye-holes sure don't have much depth perception. :P Of course, if you load the really big pictures and look carefully at my left ankle, you'll see how swollen it still is.

As I said before, keep up the good work!

If we are gonna have a bunch of stinkin Normans around, it might as well be some that are as 'pretty' as you all:)

The spear, a "höggspjót", is a boar hunting spear and should not have been used in a picture depicting a military setting.
Yes, that is butted mail - but I'm skipping the purchase of food to save up for riveted.

On the plus side I haven't washed my gambeson since Hastings '02, so I do have the olfactory essence of the 11th century.

Bully for you fellows! Great impression, and I love the saddles! Good looking tack too, and at least most of it doesn't look as though it's recycled modern stuff, but "made for".

(But tell me, is that a Jennifer saddle I espy in the background there.... ??? Someone is used to doing high-end LH, says I to myself... :D)

Anyway, good looking kit, and very happy to see more folks out there "a' cheval"!

Cheers!

Yeah. Horses are the best. I am so getting one when I come back from Iraq. That and a pair of greyhounds and a mew of falcons. I'll need to quit my job to take care of them all.

P.S: Just kidding...I think the extent goes to a horse and a greyhound.

A well-trained Horse, Brindle Hound and a good grey Hawk... what else can a man ask for, besides someone to come home to?

Cheers!

To crush his enemy, to see them driven before him, and to hear the lamentations of their women."?
