Roman Kit resource

Post by zippy »

I am looking for some good soft kit or underclothes (for armor and such)
resources
most of the ones i am finding are costume oriented

I want to know construction and differences between eras
and the names for different outfits

Some point me in the right direction

I want to know if the Roman re-enactors got a lot of play off the 'Rome' TV series. It made me ponder building a Roman kit for SCA.....

Oh, we'll be correcting misconceptions from "Rome" for years to come! Heck, we're still doing damage control from "Gladiator". Sure, it sparks a little interest, and there might be a very few people who get into reenacting because of it, but I'm not sure it's worth the bad information that gets spread around. (Couldn't tell you about influence in the SCA, though.)

Thanks for the plug, Yojimbo! On that page there's also a link to the Roman Army Talk board, where you can find a whole lot more about later Roman eras (the Legio XX site being primarily first century AD).

Valete,

Matt is being very modest! I believe that the single greatest resource, and inspiration for Roman re-enacting in the world lays at the feet of Matt Amt. Matt has provided free of charge the best resource for anyone getting into the hobby.

My soft kit is in dire need of being expanded myself. As for padding for armor, It is all basically simple yet comfortable and protective like the subarmalis. You can't beat using linen or wool to make your undergarments and clothes out of.
