I am having a reproduction made of a 1480's German leg harness. I have some questions about 1480's German sabatons.
Background:
I will be using these almost exclusively for foot combat.
I have chosen to go with seperate greaves and sabatons.
I am also haveing spurs made for this harness.
1. Would it be appropriate to have heel plates on these sabatons?
Most if not all of museum displays I have seen do not.
Many 14th century effigies show heel plates.
2. Do the arms of the spurs go under the greaves?
I have seen this done both ways under and over.
Under seems to be the right way to me.
3. Is there a big difference in toe shape from 14th to 15th century?
Thanks,
Tom
Thanks,
Tom

This is a reproduction of a mid-15th century sabaton.
Would the shape of this toe plate be appropriate for a 1480's German Sabaton?

These aren`t 14th century, they are based on the beauchamp effigy`s sabatons, so they`re definately from the 2nd half of the 15th century.
Trust me on this.. They are mine, under construction by Stanislav.
The shape of the toe is based on the effigy and the shape of the toes of my arming shoes.
May I ask where you found this image?
