Kobalt sliding compound miter saw from Lowes?

Post by InsaneIrish »

Ok, since you guys gave me such great advice about the bosch jig saw, has anyone had any experience with the Kobalt stuff from Lowes?

Can you give me a link to look at?
( so I know what you are wanting advice on....)

Did you get the Bosch? Are you happy with it?

Decent saw for a do it yerselfer. I'm not sure I'd recommend it for someone who does extensive carpentry though. The blade seems to have too much wobble for my taste.

Well, Lowes does not have it on their website.

but, it is a Kobalt brand sliding compound miter saw. They have one at my local Lowes.

yeah I got the Bosch. OH BOY am I happy with it. I also picked up a DeWalt, one step down from their top of the line. We did a side by side comparison and the Bosch BLEW IT AWAY. The Bosch is my new favorite tool.

Its not a bad saw, for the small stock you are working with.

If you were on a jobsite Id recommend the Dewalt(I know, I said I hate their cordless stuff) heavy chop deck.

Why not a radial arm saw? You gonna be hanging any crown moulding? Its a crapload easier to set a radial into a permanent extended table and jig fence, kinda like what we built at our shop. And the joys of face up dado work can be yours as well...

Craftsman radial arm saws are on the KC craigslist site every week. I can start throwing them your way. Or just pick one up for ya of it looks good.

Not really enough room for a radial arm saw. We had one, but it was constantly in the way in the shop. All we need the saw for is to cut wider 12" lumber to length. I just didn't want to get a saw that had bad blade wobble or weak motor.

We have a 10" or 12" (can't remember) DeWalt compound miter saw, but it is not a slider.

I bought the Kobalt.

It's okay for small hobby stuff. It will work for what I will be using it for.

Had I needed it for a work environment, I would buy the Bosch or Dewalt.

I have the 12" DeWalt sliding compound saw, it is awesome. Then again, I'm not doing precision professional carpenter's work, so I might not notice a lack of precision. But it tears through wood without breaking a sweat, is easy and relatively safe to use and I bought the DeWalt portable stand for it which works great. Lots of basic useful accessories too, like saw extenders and clamp sets. Love it.
Is the SCA a better place for having you in it? If not, what are you doing there?

I've never bought Kobalt. I have a dewalt 12" non-slider, which seems big enough for almost anything I'm likely to cut anytime soon.
