About what time did square or rectangular Besegews come into play?

I did some searching on gothic-eye and the effigies that had them (which were very few) were pretty late (15th century)

I was wondering if this was true, or if they just weren't depicted in the effigies gothic-eye has.

You see rectangular besagews on English effigies and brasses as early as 1416 and they seem to be at their height of popularity in the 1440s

I am not sure about their use on the continent.
