How do I look?

I am going for a 1340ish German persona. So how do I look. I know I need new gauntlets and a new shirt, but other than that I am not too sure. Also what would I need to do to get into the CoT? I am attaching links to the large pictures at the bottom of this so people can see details if they want. These pictures are from Sundays Company FP and were taken by Jocosa.

You need a lot more mail, a haubergorn for the 1340's is a must.

I'd suggest a jupon or houpland or some sort of 14th C tabbard rather than the tunic you have on, otherwise looks pretty darn good :)

Agreed on the mail. The rest, shirt aside, actually looks pretty nice.

As one of the Captains of the Combat of the Thirty I would agree with your won self-assessment. Yes, it would be great to have more maille for your kit but it is not a requirment for the CotT. Period undergarments can really help a kit in final appearance. I cannot tell what you are wearing from the pic however.

Will you be fighting in the Deed of Arms at Gulf Wars?

It looks quite good and the equal to many of thre kits in the 30. The style of visor and the BP plac eit later than 1340 though more like 1360 at the earliest

Thanks for pointing that out Cet. I hadn't even noticed the date that he was shooting for. My brain just locked onto the CotT part and ran with it.

As to getting into the CotT, Bjorn... pm either myself for the French team or Johannes for the English team then get yourself to Penssic.

Respectfully,

Sir Nigel

Heh. The way the eye slits are on your helm, it makes you seem very, very depressed. :P

Chello!

Very nice...everybody already what I would have said...looks more 1360's than 1340's.

Other than the mail and being a decade or two late on the visor I have to say you look pretty good.

In fact, Nando would say "You Look Marvelous"

The maile is coming. Living here in Florida I refuse to have anything but stainless (because I know I wont take care of it the way it should be) and I have had more armor rust out on me than I care to think of. But Stainless maile is expensive and my kids need to eat so it may be a couple of months, but it is coming.

As for the shirt I am in the process of talking to several people about the clothes and I will eventually have something nice. :D

I did get the helm off someone here on the Archive but I deleted all the PMs and I can't remember what his name was.

About my back end looking big. I am wearing an old kidney belt that I am working on replacing. I am going to eventually point some plates onto my pourpoint but I just haven't had the time yet.

Also I will probably not be able to be at Pennsic for a couple of years to actually fight in the CoT but I want my kit to be on par with the people there.

I may however make it out to Gulf Wars for a couple of days (just depending on what work has me doing) and if I am there I would love to fight in the Deed if I am able to be there.

I am wearing a pair of braise, chauses, and a pourpoint that you can't see.

Finally, I like my droopy eye helm :(. All the pretty girls keep giving me hugs to cheer me up because they think I am sad. :D

Thanks for all the advice. Does anyone have any suggestions about what kind of gauntlets I should get?

I agree with Cet re: the breastplate and helm being later then 1340. The viking/saxon style tunic needs to be taken right out.

Splint defenses were worn by Germans into the 15th century, so I say keep the helm, bp, vams and greaves. Buy a jupon like windrose sells with the bag sleeves and change your period to 1370's or later German.
Hourglass gaunts are fine from about 1350 on, but those look a bit bulky.
Get with Sasuke, mad Matt or Ice for some metal bell cuffs. Take a look at Magnus's gaunts for another option.

The fact that you're wearing a pourpoint also tells me that you're going for later 14th c.

You can get a mail hauberk or haubergeon, but it would be hidden under the jupon anyhow. And it would simply be for completing the profile.

Take a look at Osprey's "German Medieval Armies 1300-1500", for some inspiration if you don't already have it. $14 at Amazon.com

from what I can see in the pics, I can do nothing but echo what others have already said. change the shirt out for somthing later, add mail. done.

Are you coming over for Panhandle? I'd like to get a look at the kit upclose.

Ceddie

As it stands right now I will be at Panhandle. I will probably be there early on Friday to set up. Come on by and I will treat you to a beer.
