I'm not sure if it belongs here but could someone update me on the pennsic rules regarding campfires.
I checked the website but even searching for regulations, fire, or rules came up blank.
I know that normal above ground fires are not allowed. You can dig a fire pit or get one of those big dish fire holder things on a stand.
I've found a break down fire ring at walmart, the fire would be on the ground but would be contained in a fire ring. I can't figure out if that is allowed or not.

As stupid as this sounds the rules vary by location at Pennsic. Not too long ago the state made the wonderful decision to bury a propane or natural gas pip under cooper property. There are certain sections where you can NOT dig a fire-pit and all fires must be elevated.
During the past 2 years there has been a ban of importing wood from other counties to stop the spread of some wood burrowing insect.
Then there are rules regarding how far lit tiki-torchs must be from tents and flamable fuel sources (like the wood pile). Generally it is equal in distance to the height the fire is off the ground. Alternatly it might also apply to the height of the tallest flamible structure if it were to fall towards the torch.
Other then that it's a lot of common sense and please don't set yourself, your property, your friends, your enemies or any of their property on fire.

The campground uses fire rings.
To the best of my knowledge there is no restriction against using them during Pennsic.
Do heed Sean's warning that the rules can vary depending upon specific location.
However - - I have not yet looked at any regulations for Pennsic in 2009, so if there's been any change....

Tiki torches.. Height of torch plus one half away from tents etc.
Firepits really don't have a restriction on Size They do however have a ruling that tents and flammables must be far enough away (15') or so I believe to curtail sparks combusting tents.
This is all off the top of my head as the rules that we at one time read regarding firepits at Coopers. Since I am on the slumlord staff for our encampment these were the rules we stand by and haven't had any grief yet.
