Leather pencil case: In progress

I'm working on a pencil case for my brother (in the spirit of medieval penners), and thought I would share. I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not, as the designs are more modern, and were inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's work.

Not much to look at yet, but I've got the insert and the bottom part done. I am currently working on the lid portion, and will get that stitched up once it's finished. I'm not adding the slits in the sides (for the strap) on this one because it does not need to be portable.

When finished, I plan on dyeing this a dark red.

Anyway, I just thoguth I'd share, and will post more pics along the way.

PS. Sorry for the crappy pics. I get better pics outside, but it's durn cold. Maybe I will brave the elements for the finished shots. :)

Inspiring, Cat.

I'm also on a short break from leather armoring, as I prep for making a buff coat, which will take forever... so I just did a belt yesterday, and am doing a quickie crude moosehide vest as a rescue from a hide that got scorched while smoking.

Now that I've learned a little more, I'm really hoping I can get my hands on some more cheap alum stuff to hot-stuff and get to business with... it handles quite a bit differently than either typical veg/latigo, and even quite a bit differently than half-softened smoketans.

If you never need an excuse to produce something for fun, I'll be happy to a "medieval-esque" ludo fore putavimus project swap with ya.

Thanks Russ. :) I appreciate your trade offer also! I will certainly keep that in mind!

Here's another pic. The lid is done and has been stitched around the form. I'm not sure I like the design on the lid. It looked much better when it was all on paper. I'm hoping the dye really brings it all together. We'll see...hopefully it turns out ok because this is a Christmas present, and I'm outta time. :)

Just call it "Art Deco," and you're good. That's what it reminds me of, anyway.

Thank you very much! I'm really happy with how this turned out, although I can't seem to get good pics of it. It really does look alot better in person than what I have been able to capture.

Here are a couple of pics. The darker pic is pretty close to the real color. The other one is really washed out and makes it look brighter/oranger than whatr it really is. I wish these pics could have turned out better...

Oh well. It's done, and I think my brother will be happy with it.
