Looks very interesting. Very little armour, is that usual? The dart interests me too. How effective would a weapon like that be?

Did you grind the fullers on the sword?

really the only armour I would have is a mail shirt or maybe lamalar. I really wanted to show off the tunic so I didn't wear it. plus there are instances of light infantry so I don't think armour was always worn.

the dart is called a plumbata. it was a effective infantry weapon against horses and other infantry types. really cool lawn dart.

no, this sword is the late late roman Deepeeka it already had the fullers in it. I've seen a few 4thc that had them so I left them in. They need to be a little deeper, but I'm okay with it.

Chuck,

I ground my blade on the belt grinder, and got a lot of the tip heaviness out of it. I also took a 4 inch grinder and cut the fullers deeper, and all the way to the hilt as on originals. Its not that hard to do. If you want to bring it down one Sat, we could easily do it in a day.

Thanks

For numerous reasons...one..sewing is easier..me and the family switched to 5th-6th century British Romano. Also the fighting kit is much easier. I bought one of the Deepeka helms for the soft kit..dress armor. I am assembling my SCA fighting harness now with Calontir fluted plates form my lamellar and here is my helm. Even going with a wall tent, sold my wedge yesterday. A couple of questions.
Late Roman did wedge tents appear then at the fall of the empire?
Opinon on deepeka dress helm?
Opinion on SCA fighting helm?
Could you all please post some more tunic pics..coptic or others.
Thanks,
Marius
