Reenactment of Battle of Teutoburg Forest

I'm delving into things unfamiliar here, so I'm hoping for some suggestions. There is a city nearby called New Ulm, Mn. It is very, very, very German. In the center of town on a hilltop overlooking the Minnesota River is a statue of Hermann (Arminius). On Saturday, Sept 19, the city is holding a 2000th anniversary of Arminius' victory in the Teutoburg Forest against the Romans, in which there will be a battle reenactment involving a Roman Legion from Chicago.
They are trying to scrounge up some germanic tribesman to 'fight' against the Roman's for a reenactment of the battle for the crowd. Now remember, this is a town festival where there are very few people who know the full story of the battle, so they are going to be impressed with the Roman Legion as they will be accurately portrayed, but the germanic tribesmen will be relatively unknown to the crowd so they won't have to be so accurately portrayed (I like to do things correctly, but this is what the organizer told me).
Here's my problem. I'm very well geared up for the 1350's and 1470's. I know nothing and own nothing for the time period of the Teutoburg Battle. Since this is going to be a one time deal (I don't think I'll be around for the 3000th anniversary, let along 2100 anniversary) I don't want to spent hardly anything on the clothing, yet I want to look somewhat historical. Armour is out. It's not worth investing in roman armor for one 2 hour event. What about clothes? For example, would a dark ages type outfit from Historic Enterprises be close enough? I have a neighbor who can sew for me (since I suck at it) but I'd have to come up with the patterns.
Any suggestions?
