On gates: Remember, no matter how much you dress up a plywood castle, it's still a plywood castle. Sometimes, doing it simple is best.

There are 2 woodcuts in Medieval Warfare from the early 16th c that show canvas walls as shown in the picture you reference above. One is painted similar to tent decoration.

We hadn't thought of getting walls until we saw these.
