another battle/melee at Pennsic

Post by Duchess Tessa »

In case it is of any interest to anyone here..

There is another woods battle at Pennsic this year. Thanks to BMDL for sponsoring it. It's called the AEthelmearc woods battle and it starts at 2 pm on Tuesday, Aug 4th and goes until we run out of energy. I'm expecting ~ 4 pm.. but if people still want to fight, that's fine by me.

Go to the Southern rallying point for the regular woods battle. Depending on how many people show up on whether we will fight there (which we did 3 years ago.. great breeze in the afternoon) or further in. The goal is to have lots of fun fighting.

This is open to any authorized heavy fighter, so combat archery is allowed. It's resurrection and I'll make adjustments, if things get too unbalanced.

I grew up fighting in lots of woods battles in S.C. and N.C. It's my absolute favorite type of battle. I had a number of people ask me this year if I could make it happen this pennsic, since I did it (with help) a couple of years ago.

No war point, just for fun. The more, the merrier.. but we'll have fun regardless of the numbers. :) If you are running late, it's ok.. I've factored that into the plan. Please feel free to spread the word.

**I almost forgot, they asked us not to clog up Currie road with cars, so use the parking lot if you need to get dropped of or want to use a car to get there. :)

My thanks to our Baron and Baroness, baronial officers and my Barony, BMDL for agreeing to sponsor this for me. My thanks to the Pennsic battlefield staff, specifically the MIC, battlefield scheduler and coordinator for allowing and helping me make this a reality.

I also extend an offer to those of you who are trying to think of ways to improve CA, to come out at watch. We can always use more marshals.. or more fighters, if you want to experience it first hand. I will be making adjustments (and you can see for yourself how effective they are and the difference some minor changes can make), to make certain everyone is having fun.

A fun battle... bring your whole household and take on the world. House Clovenshield did the first year we did this.

Yep. I remember looking up and seeing all of your guys pouring out of your truck (looked like a troop carrier). It was great and I really appreciated y'all coming out, especially since I decided to schedule it for after the castle battle, which ran over and everyone was exhausted. Lots were too exhausted to fight any more.

I tried to learn from that, so this year, there's a gap after the field battle (hopefully not too much of one), so people can take a break, refuel.. and hopefully fight more in the afternoon. :)

Oh I'm in! Any excuse to stomp around the woods. :)

since the regular woods battle is the best battle in the known world, this is probably no worse than 3rd. I'll try to make it maybe grab a few peeps after the field battles.

I fought in this before. It was like a knife fight in a phone booth. Uhh, just to be clear, I mean that as a very good thing.

Awesome. I've found that having a heads up of who should be there helps, since when we know we'll have more friends to fight with.. more people tend to show up.

I'm hoping we can get some people to remind/let more fighters know about it, after the field battle. The more the merrier!!

I haven't really asked for a heads count, but so far, from the fighters who have said they will be there, I have over 20 fighters, not bad for a days notice. :)

See you are Pennsic.

Awesome. I seriously love woods battles.

It's an added bonus when you get a breeze and shade that you don't usually get teh open field battle.

That would be great. I think if we each tell (or remind) our buddies about it, we should have a good turn-out. I think those of us who are die hard melee fans (especially in the woods) will be there.

Thanks.

I'm glad you said that, since I wasn't certain if that was good or bad. LOL..

Hmm.. ya know.. I could always use my personal banner or pennant as part of the battle. ;)

Hmm.. maybe I'm crazy.. but I just had a thought. I'm not certain how I could do it, so I'm open to suggestions. I'm willing to make some spear pennants (if anyone would like some) with household or kingdom badges on them. anything from 2 to 1/2 a dozen. I'm just not certain how to make that fair. On who would win them.. or how that would be decided? Any ideas??

I really liked how much fun people had last time, so I would rather not change that part. Maybe I'll make 6 spear pennants.. and the first fighters to show up in armor (or arrive and armor up first), either gets one or gets to decide who gets one?

I'm likely making this overly complicated? I enjoy making spear pennants, so it's no hardship on my part, if it would be interesting to others. I could likely just as easily make shoulder patches or the pieces that hang from the back of a helm (like a crest and mantle, but not as fancy). I'm open to suggestions.. including one on putting my hand down. LOL...

That one of our households is showing up with most, possibly all of their fighters (more then a dozen fighters).

This should be a fun battle..

It's right down the road from our camp, and there's about a dozen or so fighters going to be there, most of whom love woods battles. I'll post it out on our local lists to let folks know. :) Sounds like a lot of fun!

That would be great, thanks.

If the fighters who camp closer to the woods know about it (i.e. have it in their heads) and a good number of them show up.. then those who make the longer trip will have more fighters to fight.

So, getting the word out to those groups or at least some of them, helps.

See you at Pennsic..
