We were both throwing a lot of flat leg wraps. I've been recording a lot of people at 300fps and so far it seems everyone throws a lot of flat leg wraps. Look at my crown list video and you'll see the same.

I don't see flat moulinets. Maybe give me timestamps and I'll look.
I think what might be happenning is not knowing what you're seeing because of the twist in the shot. The angle of impact changes slightly at the very end of the shot and is not always perpendicular to the surface of the helm. Flat moulinets do happen, I'm just not seeing them here.

I think most people will be shocked to see themselves under this camera.

4:30 and 5:34. Both look close after multiple viewings. Perhaps I don't understand all the mechanics of how it is thrown.

I agree though that this camera has an amazing ablitity to make us rethink some things we assume about our fighting. Thank you again for posting these.

5:34 isn't flat. Hard to have language to describe it but the blow comes in from Jebe's left at 0 degrees to the horizon, and the blade is also oriented at 0 degrees from the horizon on "impact" (doesn't really impact much, kinda skips off).

4:30 is a bit more complicated but I think it was flat. I just watched like 6 times to try and see for sure. I think Baldar adjusted the blow angle after it was already started and failed to properly orient the blade. I'm going to go over that shot with him next time I'm at his house just as I know he's already done himself with the leg blows...

300fps is an awesome tool.

I love these slow motion with commentary videos. That combination is a great learning tool. I've also used them to show non-SCA folks what the game is about. My only suggestion would be to post the full-speed video as well.

Thanks for the videos Gaston. Have been a fan of the slow-mo for a while.

Like I said, in review, they both looked very close to being good/flat. I would love to see some of the best guys out there under this microscope, espically the ones with really fast hands.

I love the slow mo with commentary. I find it very helpful (all of the vids have been, frankly).

WIth the slow mo, I think it would be cool to ALSO see the fights in full-speed.

Absolutely...Ailgheannan, Brannos, Jade, countless others that work their hands too fast for most to follow...that I'd love.

If nothing else than to watch how they throw the damn things.

You can always ask them if/when you see them at an event.

Unless you diametrically from them.

I do, every chance I get (with the ones that are anywhere near close to me). And Duke Brannos' instructional videos are amazing and helped (and continue to help) me a lot.

But it's different to watch them in video, fighting a great opponent, when they are on top of their game. Now to take that and slow it down and watch it several times? That's the best help for me to see how it works.

I know. I am fortunate in that I get to recieve training from HG Brannos.

Now... I would like to get some stick time with HG Baldar and HG Gaston (If I remember correctly, he supported me in a quest I was doing during Pennsic 2005 - I think he was Prince then).

There are many others I approach an ask for training when I get the chance.

These training videos are GREAT! I watch them as often as I can.

It may please you to know, that even without footage of ourselves at 300 fps, but just by watching your films, awareness of blade orientation in various techniques have increased in our area. The number of flats thrown have (we believe) conversely decreased.

Perhaps my typing wasn't clear....Baldar is legendary in Trimaris and the Society. I meant in addition to just folks from your Kingdom. I.E. others from around the Society. Other 'Uber-Dukes' for lack of a better term.

Imagine watching Steffan von Dresdan under this scope....

Personally what I want to get is Baldar v Stephen vo Dresden....

I'm looking to see what to post next. I considered posting new video with commentary rather than recording over another one of the vids I've already posted but the remaining unposted footage from that day in Baldar's backyard is fighting by EMP rules rather than SCA. Might just go with what's already edited instead.

Throwing in a vote for more commentary videos of lefty vs righty fights.

Also with the upcoming war season perhaps a piece on spear work? I'm not sure if that really applies to what you are trying to accomplish here but thought I would bring it up.

I will do a spear vid eventually. Not melee technique, but actual how to poke and not get poked technique.

I've decided not to do melee teaching vids for youtube for now so as not to give away kingdom playbook...

I would like to publicly beg Duke Gaston to do more of these. I'm commuting 4 hours (round trip) once-a-week to Fighter Practise, and anything I can do on the other six days (besides workout, mirror work, and pell) is worth its weight in virtual gold.

I would have to agree, I think these videos have been a valuable resource and would love to see the series continue.

I have no doubt they are a fair amount of work, and think Duke Gaston has done a great job on them. I hope he doesn't get burned out. I also hope he knows the effort is appreciated.
