I had thought Duke Radu was going to be in this one - I guess not. His absense really throws this one open.

I think the leading three would be Sir Ashi, Sir Jon and Count Aengus (in that order, but close).

I wouldn't rule out an upset win by Viscount Caillin, Sir James, or Sir Uric.

Not sure any of the others can make it through the gauntlet, but I am curious to see how far Lord Settimio gets, as he has been fighting very well.

my 2 cents,
Caedmon

Well, Duchess Broinnfinn and I submitted our letter, but Their Majesty's decided that our participation was not in the best interest of the Kingdom at this time.

How anyone can say that a duke should not participate in crown is beyond me.

Ludicrous

Last I checked it was the right of the Crown to deny entry to any, as they saw fit.

Not for me to determine whether or not Their Majesties reasons are "reasonable".

Black Oak is the AA guy.

Interesting list and really like Jon and Aengus in this one. Hate to say I don't know Ashi to have an opinion on him.

I agree but as an outsider I see it as punishment. It is the crowns right however every time a person is held out especially if it is someone who has done the job before I find it ludicrous. Doesn't matter what kingdom it is.

I could have held people out of my list but I didn't and I don't feel others should either.

I feel that if a person is allowed to participate in the SCA then they should be allowed to fight in crown. There are other methods of punishment that can be administered.

This is my personal opinion however with no knowledge of the specific situation.

Nobody is being judged by me I just find holding folks out of crown in general to be ludicrous.

Caedmon - I thought you'd be fighting as well

Radu - WTF, he's holding out the First King and Queen of the Kingdom? did you get a reason (I realize and respect that the crown doesn't have to give a reason - but my curiosity has a hold of me)

Given the situation -

Aengus and Caillan in the finals

THL John Widcomb as the Dark horse.

Their Majesties did send us an email detailing Their reasons. I think it would be best if that question were directed to Their Majesties.

As always, we acknowledge the prerogative of the Crown to determine the competitors of Their list. Had we felt we were unable to fulfill the demands of the list, we would not have submitted a letter. However, in this case, Their Majesties disagreed, as is Their Right. They indicated a desire that we should wait until the Spring, and so we shall.

Looking at my last statement I didn't want it to seem like I discarded some of the guys who I really like. I just see the swamp ape (Aengus) verusu the Bigfoot (Jon) as the fight I like. Ashi has done real well in tourneys and is a top-level fighter from all I have heard.

Callian is a great fighter and beat me in the finals of the coronet he won.

Uric is a flying monkey (go look at the pictures)

James the holy I just don't know but Jon and Marvin have said nothing but good about him.

John Widcomb has always been very solid

I think a lot of you are underestimating Lord Inigo Lewis Domingo Montoya de Castile.
From what I understand, he is HIGHLY motivated,.........

Spring Crown winner will be King for GW 20, so I think that some are gunning for that. That and mundane & economic issues are affecting others.

Should still be a fun list.

wow... i am speechless. Deny the right to fighters to enter a Crown Tourney? That's ludicrous. Why don't you just hand it over to your friend right away and be done with it.
This is the kind of shit that usually happens in Iran, or Africa. Terrible. Absolutely terrible.

EDIT:
Broinnfinn: NO it is NOT their right to deny you to compete.

I just came back from a little trip, and realized that this enfuriates me more than I thought. This is a move straight from Khamenei's playbook. "Yeah you can rule, but only if what you think is best is the same as what I think is best". American troops are out fighting exactly so this kind of shit doesn't happen. Cronyism is wrong, it makes a farce of the whole "King by Right of Arms" deal.

Horrendous. Simply horrendous.

Actually it is their "right" to do this. Whether it is the best decision or not is open to interpretation.

However, perhaps you should first realign your thoughts. The SCA is not just America. It is not based upon the principles of American Freedoms. If you recall the United States of America fought a war to become independant of Royalty so therefore to rant about American Soldiers being out in the world fighting to prevent "this kind of shit" has no meaning.

The SCA plays at recreating Medieval culture and times, that includes Royalty and Royal prerogative.

And again the SCA encompases many more countries than the US. Or have you fogotten the Many Kingdoms that include countries other than the US.

Drachenwald
Lochac
An Tir
The West Kingdom
Northshield
Ealdormere
Middle
The East Kingdom

So 8 of the 19 Kingdoms have either Parts or are Entirely NON American.

By the way in no way does this say whether I agree with the decision it just says that they DO have the right and it has NOTHING to do with American soldiers fighting in Foreign wars.

regards
Thorvaldr
