Lupercalia

Post by Pathfinder »

Anyone from the board going to Lupercalia? It's our shires local event. It's tomorrow and will be the first real event I will be able to attend.
If anyone here attends look me up I'll be the dork wearing a crappy black tunic with red hose and red tabard trimmed with black with the archive symbol(in black)on the front.(My first attempt at garb Image )
Hope to see you there.

Your first attempt sounds much better than mine. I made this crappy black T tunic out of sweatshirt material that only cost 50 cent a yard. I got 2 yards. Then I got some "stitch witch". I put the thing together in my dorm room with an iron I borrowed from a new neighbor I didn't know. The damn thing was only supposed to last one weekend and I ended up using it for 3 years. I never sewed a stitch on it. It disappeard under mysterious circumstances, I suspect it was burned.

I always liked Lupercalia -- very fun event. In fact, I was authorized at it in '98. Ah, the memories! Image (I'm happy to tell the story for anyone who cares to ask). Anyway, I can't make it this year (obviously), but I hope it goes well!

What a day.Due to the normal shitty Mn winter, the turn out was kinda small.
I was in the kitchen helping when our Marshal came and asked if I wanted to authorize,I got armoured up and then found out you had to be a paying member to authorize in Midrealm, which I'm not Image .So I just left my armour on and clanked around for a couple hours(one guy accused me of trying to blind everyone).By then more fighters showed up and started to armour up,OH MY GOD was I in heaven I went to several differant fighters and spoke with them about their armour while trying not to drool like an idiot.I seen the most beautiful basinet with a flip up grill made of twisted square bars with an aventail of tiny SS lock washers made by Mathew Smallwood the rest of his harness was gothic german plate made by him out of black plastic.Looked good but you could tell it was plastic, his arming coat and boots were the most period looking of all the fighters. This guy has some real skill as an armourer,I still haven't figured out why he had a shield with a poster of Sailor Moon under clear plastic on the front .
The barrier battles were fun to watch, but the best part was the Bunny Bukashi.A large pink bunny is placed in the center, grab it and go around the list field once without dying and you win a prize.Sir Alistair was the first to grab it,unknown to him and most present was that the bunny was rigged to a remote control that would cause it to vibrate violently. His reaction was priceless, the crowd loved it.
I attended my first court and watched a surprised Herald recieve the award of the Northern Cross, there were tears in his eyes and the applause was thunderous.
My first feast was fabulous I was supposed to serve but due to the turnout we had too many servers and extra food,so I was asked eat instead.I loved the pork and apple stew and the cheese pie, delicious.
One thing really confused me,there was this woman wearing black tights and jerkin with a feathered hat,her face was chalked white with a goatee glued to her chin and wearing at least a 18" long codpiece. Image Too strange, made me uncomfortable when she would walk by and it would be nodding out in front of her.Must be cod piece envy Image .Made damn sure she wasn't in line behind me waiting to wash feast gear though. Image
I had a great time.

Ah, you've met Hook I see...

But anyway, yes, the Bunny Bukashi is one of the best parts. Oh so fun... good way to run a "tournament", if you ask me.
