Send me your letters concerning In Modo Antiquo, please!

Post by Gaston »

I think we have enough of a foundation to try a post in the Meridian newsletter. If you would like your name added to the post, please do the following:

1) Print the following statement verbatim

<b>We wish to make known our intentions to offer combat to our worthy opponents in the manner of our ancestors. To any of those who would like it, in order to preserve our past and in the true spirit of the Joie de Combat, we offer to fight any single combat to an agreed number of blows, either received or thrown. We promise to offer this only if the host of the contest, the master of the list and the marshalls agree it is proper, and do withdraw any such offer if it be not liked. To let this pledge be known plainly and openly to all, we will wear upon our person, our harness, or our display, the motto "In Modo Antiquo", to show our wish to offer a contest "In the Ancient Manner".
</b>

2) Type your SCA name (and member # if you like)

3) Type your mundane name and address

4) Sign your mundane name

5) Mail 2 (signed) copies to me at:

Bob Hurley
412 Set Point Drive
Piney Flats TN 37686

(the second copy is in case the first mailing gets lost)

It will take a while to collect the letters, and a while to get it printed, so please respond quickly if you want included. I'll send a copy of all the letters to the staff of Popular Chivalry for publication (I imagine they'll print one copy with all the signatures after. They've been spoofed before, so I don't think they'll publish it without the signed copies from you).

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A MERIDIAN to be included, I view this as an open message to the citizens of Meridies by ALL fighters so inclined. You may wish to do the same thing in your kingdom.

I've only actually received one letter(s). I'll hold off a bit because I think it will have more impact with a half dozen or more, but if you're going to send one please, do it now! It's going to take a couple of months to get it into the paper, and if it comes out in November everyone will have forgotten it by the new season.

I've received two, Otto's and yours. BTW, your real name is on there twice - is that your SCA name as well?

Gaston:

You could print out several copies of the wording and have people at Kinser sign and address them...even send an e-mail to get their mailing addresses.
