Old fighting pictures

Post by Ewen MacSuibhne »

My search-fu is weak, but I remember a thread with pictures of SCA from yesteryear, and a few people expressed a strong desire to see more. After bribing my dad, he finally dug out some pictures from when he was in the SCA back in the early 80's. I think this was in the Barony of Hidden Mountain, in Charleston, SC are at any rate.

I figured I would share them for the enjoyment of all. Bear in mind, the annotations are based off of his notes on the photos. If people recognize and want to amplify, by all means.

Duke Sir Michael of Bedford I think

Most likley that is one of Michael's squires, not Mike himself. I of course, could be wrong....but Mike's kit was a bit more advanced than that by that time. Unforunately I think the TYD site is still down with the evidence, but Michael had some pretty advanced armour for the time and that stuff doesn't reflect that.

Not to mention that I don't recall ever seeing Michael with two swords.
On the other hand, I think I see Duke Olaf with two swords in one of the melee pictures.

Yes, that is Olaf and it helps to date the pictures since Ollie was knighted in 1983. Long before then Michael was wearing his basicnets. Shame that Tannis's pictures were all of the TYD site...that had some real gems!

Ewen-
Gawd, do you look like your dad!
And I'm glad to see you ended up in Ponte Alto, I spent some time there, and it's a great part of the known world!

There's some old Clovershield stuff floating around. I'm recovering from a hip replacement so you guys will have to find them.

Nissan might post some here...

Close. it is his brother. Toke Ormson. Funny story, he is a millionaire now. As a hobby he owns some village in central america. Built em a school and a hospital. They worship him as a god. Seriously. I saw a picture of his statue.

Wow. Close family resemblance neh? I miss Haldar at the KOC hall in Swissvale, all drunk and slamming that big haunch of meat on the table. LOL We were trying to hide him downstairs when the cops showed up LOL

Alas, the guard are all gone from our game. Haldar's wife won't let him play, Yoke is long gone and I saw Jay Hess, Once known as Burs the red, about five years ago. He had to change his name to "the grey".
