I have been going to my local fighter practice for the past few months.I have assembled my armor all except a helm.I have sent money orders to two different guys who said the could get me a helm,My money has been returned twice.My barony has no loaner gear.Iv'e wasted three months trying to get a helm.Any thoughts or suggestions?I can't wait to get started,.

well one option would be to get a true heart helm. IIRC, they have helms starting at 40 bux. you might even bring up a motion at your shire/canton/barony' s business meeting that some loaner gear is indeed needed. maybe you could actually look up different armouries on the web, and come back with a price analysis for the next baronial meeting. get the helms, mark them prominently (maybe a punch out of the baronial device, or initials of the barony, and paint them baronial colours.

remeber, if your not part of the solution, you're part of the problem...

Helms: check out all the armorers you can get info on. There are too many to list here. That's bizzare that two different armorers returned your money.

But thank you for the info... I have a brother in Indianapolis, and now I know there's a local group he's not fighting with... grrr...

If all esle fails, make some helms. It's not that complicated to make some ugly barrel helms for general use: they'll work, but they'll also be incentive to get your own.

Great helms are easy to make and require few tools. Look at Krags site for an excellent how-to essay. There are also patterns in the pattern archive here. I just made a greathelm that came out pretty well in about 6 hrs . in my garage with a jigsaw, drill, hammer, hunk of wood, and file.

Depending upon how much you want to spend, Icefalcon has very pretty helms in stock. They are definitely higher end, but they won't wear out on you.

I'll second the recommendation for Boldo and WMA, I've owned helmets from both. WMA makes especially lovely stuff take a look

Thanks for all the replies.I guess my problem is a common one,Most armourers have a waiting list of 4 to 24 months.Truehearh is 9 months.I need something for $100 or less.I am going to go ahead and try to make my own.What type of rivits should I use?-Thanks again

Steel, 3/16" are what I prefer for most armoring. You can get them from McMaster-Carr and RJ Leahy, online.

Be sure the metal you use is actually thick enough. DOn't trust what they sell it to you as.

I personally like the make your own helm option...

In about a month I will be back in the Indianaoplis area (I live in the Butler Tarkington neighborhood while not at school). While I have no previous experience with metalworking I would be all for helping make a few helms, especially for such a worthy cause as providing loaner gear.

Is the fighter practice at the school or at the park that week? I live about an hour south , so I don't get up there but about once a month.

I wish I had one so I could help someone out...guess I'll have to make one....

Maybe with a giant "LOANER HELM, IF YOU SEE ME IN THIS FOR MORE THAN A YEAR, KICK MY ASS!" done across the top of the eyes in brass.....
Or, maybe riveting one of those rainbow clown wigs onto it....

Because some people need more impetus to seek a new helm than others...<grin>
