Does anyone still use it?

For those of us who wish to talk about the many styles and facets of recreating Medieval armed combat.

Does anyone still use it?

Post by Ulfar »

Was wondering if there were any SCA fighters who still used heat shrink tubing.

I HEARD it was banned, because the way it shrank compressed the rattan fibre and reduced its flexibility...

from what ive herd its still legal. i know at least one person who uses it and it doesn't hurt the flexability of his swords. it achieves the same effect as siloflex but is much softer but will will improve the longevity of a sword and doesn't require shaving the rattan since it form fits

What exactly does siloflex do?

Silo-flex is a type of irrigation tubing (vaguely similar to PVC), that some people use on their rattan swords to increase the longevity of them. It's SCA legal, but I don't know if all kingdoms allow it...

It's generally black, avilable in rolls or short straight sections (~5') from some hardware stores. It has to be 1.25 inches in diameter on the outside, and 1 inch on the inside. AFAIK, only one-handed swords can be make with silo-flex.
