sometimes fame is uncool (and often undeserved).
but there aint no "cheating thug" videos of me anywhere buddy! i take a lot lighter than i give as a general rule and i dont wear any armour so when i get hit i know it. still, with fame come rumors and ive heard of a few folks that label me as one of those "rhino" guys and ive even talked to some folks who have flat out told me that they were "warned" about me and that "dont take shots". its laughable at best but it does point out a problem our society has when such mud slinging goes unchallenged and is allowed to exist.
watching the video in question the shots all look weak to me. of course i can not, with any degree of surety, make that call but i know a little bit about body mechanics and have studied so many hours of fighting tape that there are some factors that one can assume are indications of a weak shot. swords that dont slow down on impact, targets that dont move on impact, blows that are thrown with the wrist or with little arm movement, etc. these are indicators that can offer a lot of information to the viewer.
still, the thing that makes our sport unique is that the man being struck calls the blow. this is something that should be cherished and revered but all too often it is cast aside by the uneducated. few things make me more sick than to watch tape of fighting and see a few shots land and then hear, via the cameras mic, some jackass on the side making comments like "oh my god, what does it take?" or "wow, how many times does he need to be hit?". it is the willingness of some folks to assume the worst of people that is disheartening and disgusting. ive had plenty of fights in which ive had to hit my opponent many times. with rare exception i dont let it bother me because i trust my opponents and i dont care if i win some fake fight. i still have to go home and feed my cat at the end of the day and that is much higher on my priority level than worrying about some guy who might be "cheating".
in the end there are, without doubt, going to be some folks that witnessed this fight who are still walking around thinking "man, i saw this guy get blasted 34 times in his head at gulf wars and he just shrugged it off. talk about a cheater!". these same idiots then tell their buddies who tell their buddies and, at the end of the day, the story goes "a friend of mine hit icefalcon at gulf wars with so many hard shots to his head that blood was dripping from his eyes and he finally took a shot that knocked him off his feet and he landed 12' back. well, you know how those bloodguard guys are all rhinos." its really a shame.
you cant fight it, it will continue to happen so long as people accept the rumor mongers and their far fetched stories. the best thing anyone can do is to ignore it, continue to pursue great fights with great people, and enjoy everything our sport has to offer. those so willing to assume the worst of others harm the very spirit of our society, but they can not make it go away.

Being that 'cheating thug', I vaguely remember that exchange. The spear shots were all off of sword/basket hilt.
As for the sword shots.... I don't remember any of them landing well. Now that could mean...
None of them were of sufficient force, or
They were of sufficient force, but due to whatever weirdness the force did not translate through the helm, or
The force translated, but I didn't 'notice' it.
Like I said, I remember them being... not good, but maybe I was wrong.
Unto Calontir; if they were good, and I failed to notice, I apologize.
On the other hand, I spent the entire battle across from you, so you got to kill me Puh-len-ty!
It was a rez battle, and we had a blast fighting across from Calontir. Spirits were high, and animosity seemingly non-existant. There was much talking across the lines, so I would like to think someone could have asked me if they had an issue with anything.
Sometimes people cheat, but more often they just miss something. I have asked people about a shot, and had them say "not good", or "y'know, that was good". It happens. I am sure I have missed blows I should have called; but I try not to, and I hope they are few and far between.
I just hope Constantine does a slow motion version, then I can become as famous as Logan.
