It seems to me that archers in a seige battle could appropriately be styled as the normally non-combattant members of a noble houshold--i.e., women, children and the old/infirm. How can you have a seige without missiles?

Gee Chev, Artos warned me of your capacity for temperate air, im just supprised you have not typed "straw man" in this thread (grin)
I recently read a quote by an sca knight/duke who stated that knights in the sca had many diff concepts of chivalry (im paraphrasing)
I think you and SirRys could be fighting a loosing battle, you may be able to convince a young fighter on this board of the error of his ways, but how long will he retain this info and share your views when his local Knight may totally disagree with you in regards to concepts of chivalry.
If the Knights in the sca cant even agree in regards to chivalric concepts how do you expect to successfully have your "correct" concepts of chivalry trickle down to the masses.
I can completly understand your points about archery and why its not a suitable tourney weapon, i have the same feeling about the 1/2 lb wiffle suits people wear when they fight, but i also see the sca as a group large enough to offer something for every body.
Out of a years worth of events pennsic is the only one where i see any CA and its not used in all scenarios.
Is there an example of a medieval tourney where the seige a castle? if there are no examples should we not play on the pennsic castle.
I wish visable plastic and overall appearance would creat such a rabid discussion.

Lots of good discussion, as far as I can tell....

But it's still getting rather long. Please start a new thread if you want to continue the discussion.
