<B> But you are mistaken in your belief that in order to do that you must look out through a narrow eyeslot, that's been my whole point. *Many* knights chose to forgo their visors, even in war, in order to get better vision. If we ignore that fact, we're *not* simulating the entire range of knightly combat, ergo your way *isn't* as accurate.

"Football helmets" may preserve the experience of an open-face helmet for the combattant wearing one, but not for his opponent who has to look at the $#%^&* ugly thing. Nor would it preserve the medieval experience for all the gallery of spectators watching the fight.
We have an obligation to our opponents and to our gallery to provide them with a medieval experience. Bargrills don't cut it.
If safety weren't an issue, I'd be all for anyone who wished to remove his visor and fight with no face protection at all; that would be accurate.
SCA bargrills are not accurate. They don't look like medieval bargrills, and they weren't as common in period as they are in the SCA. I'd love to see a King Renee tourney with REAL bargrills. That would be a totally appropriate and accurate venue for bargrills.
And, I refute your assertion that I am mistaken in my belief that I require full visors to re-create what a medieval knight felt. I know what I need to get my medieval jollies, thank you.
