Do NOT do this.

Post by Vitus von Atzinger »

Well, I was having a very bad day at Winter War and I couldn't figure out why. Finally, a marshall asked me "When was the last time you ate? Did you have a good breakfast?"
I thought about it a minute and then I said "You know, I haven't eaten in 25 hours!" Then I laughed because I am so stupid. Do not do as I do.

One of my main marital jobs is to know when T-Bob is hungry.

But hushgirl, thats kind of an easy job.

based on his size, I would say every 3 hours you say "T-Bob, time to eat!"

That's roughly it. But it varies. He won't eat before fighting, he only eats certain things after. He forgets to eat for hours if he's working on something and I sometimes have to put a cup of water in his hand before he realises he's thirsty., He doesn't always know he's hungry until he gets depressed.

I went that long without eating once recently. I lost 5 pounds in a day. Fighter practice that night was a bad bad thing, even tho I ate before. It's not a good thing at all, and worse if you've got minor blood suger issues. Image

I have a friend who collapsed at an event once from not eating or drinking enough water. It was also 90 and humid at the event, that made worst for him.

My husband has to remind (nag) me to eat too. I get busy and if I don't feel hungry I just forget to eat. When there's practice I literally have to put a reminder on my Outlook calendar so I'll eat something for lunch.

If I don't eat on time, I get terrible headaches and can't hardly function...

Lunch HAS to happen between 11:00 and 12, by 12:30 its too late.

dinner HAS to happen before 7. 7:30 - too late.

a lot of people think I use it as an excuse to get out of fighting, but I swear, sometimes these headaches get so bad I can't even focus. I couldn't imagine going 25 hours without eating.

Flonzy,
Was that the same smart ass that did not take his gear off for two hours during the tourney, and then called out "Medic!" before passing out?

I have had so much going on that I'll not eat or drink for a goodly amount of time, ussually because I'm enjoying myself. But I have seen people do the same when on the internet....New Diet fad, Loose 10 pounds via internet chat! Just a small monthly fee to AOHell.

This goes for the marshalls too. I was Marshall in Charge for a war and nearly passed out from low blood sugar.

We've got some guys that carry sports bars in a pouch when fighting the big wars. Really good when you have to walk back from the Pennsic woods battle 'cause the tractors are running late.

At our local war practice, last year's Autocrat has never lived down the fact that he ran around all day warning people to take it easy in the heat - and then went down himself because he hadn't had a meal or a drink since dawn...

I've gone the last about four days with little more than a 12 pack of mountain dew, a sandwhich, a piece of fried fish leftovers, and a chickfila burger. I've simply been to busy in the shop to eat.

Yah, not eating for 25 hours is bad. One of my buddies dropped at winter war. I ended up feeding him a glass of sugar water. After which he promptly tried to beat me, so he was good. But, you know, you do have to eat with all the armor and stuff because you just crash after a while, and that is the end of your fighting because it takes too long to regain the energy to be able to retake the field. Have a nice day.

I've been really struggling with this lately, & I'm beginning to wonder if I'm not hypoglycemic or some such. When my blood sugar drops I fly into violent, seriously _homicidal_ rages. I wish I just got stomach cramps every time. I'm realizing its a body metabolism thing - mine has been changing radically since I turned 20. I used to be mostly vegetarian. Now I find that if I eat too much pasta, or not enough meat, I get depressed. I start to crave carbohydrates. When I don't get them, my hands will start to shake, or I'll just fly off the handle at the slightest provocation. I just want to _kill_ something, & eat it.

Very primal, very hard to control, very scary for me. I'm realizing now why my father & grandfather were so abusive at that age. They both mellowed out around 35 - 40, & I don't think either of them realize how bad they got. Sometimes I don't remember - I am told afterwards. Its just crazy that at least 3 generations of physical abuse & uncontrolled rage could be averted by a simple diet change.

Now I find that if I eat meat, preferrably beef or pork, on a daily basis, I'm OK. The problem is I don't like meat, for the most part. Hate steak, sausage, pork chops. I have a tough time finding easily accessible meats that I even know how to prepare. I wish I could just have a nice tabouli, or linguine.

Similarly, if I go long periods of time without eating red meat, i tend to become depressed. I didnt realize this until i moved out on my own. Being the frugal person I am, I would buy my "meat du jour" onsale. Well boneless skinless chicken breast went on severe sale, so I bought a bunch, and ate it for a month or 2. I really started feeling bad about life in general, didnt go to class, etc.I was ready to go get tested for mono.. Then beef wnet on sale. I bought a good bit of it. Within 2 days, with nothing else changing, I felt a LOT better...My veggie head freind thinks i might have an iron issue...

Beef jerky is good (or venison if you can get a hold of it). Keeps well unrefrigerated (provided it isn't of the teryaki -spelled that wrong- pursuasion) and is period for a good part of Europe. Image

Lodhur--this is something your physician really needs to know about. Maybe just an iron issue, but could be a hormonal problem. Were your father and grandfather vegetarians?

Being a late-term baby boomer on the edge of menopause, I'm big on hormone theory.

Yes, men have hormones.

Ha! My physician... that's funny.

You have to have HEALTH INSURANCE before they'll give you a regular quack.

Picked up some 'chromium picolate' today, along with some 'spirulina protein'. That only after having an episode taking the kids to school. All I really wanted was a taco.

& yeah, been reading up alot on hormones

My son reacts to wheat/gluten with ADHD symptoms. That's what got me started on my own deal.
