Cool, thanks. What did you use to transfer from the video camera to computer file. I'm interested in doing the same with some of our footage.

Yes! Its steel fighting Image

This footage was recorded a few months ago on a Digital8 camera (thats why it looks so bad) I just bought a new MiniDV camera and just plugged the Digital8 Into the MiniDv and the MiniDV into the computer. MiniDV goes through firewire wich is at 400MBPS!! You dont loose any frames! Look forward to a series of practice videos Image

The fred2 links are fixed Image thnx for helping me out.

And yes we have tried other weapons and styles of combat. Everythingin the videos are based off of the Aemma fight book #1 or talihafers.

My weapon of choice is a long sword or claymore although mine broke into a strange type of V shape. My next choice is a dubble bladed battle axe but that also suffered a bad fate. The carbon steel blades on it have been bent so many times Its like a 22 gauge axe and its from 10 Gauge CARBON!! LOL Image

I also fight with a polearm and will put up some videos later tonight.

well.. kinda, steel swords have a smaller profile than a rattan sword there for more force concentrated in a smaller area. Being hit with rattan or steel very hard isnt that bad as long as you have protection Image

Good show! I'm a firm believer,that if well armoured,and well trained,blunt steel is fairly safe.No thrusting allowed!..Otto

Otto the aemma rules allow stabbing, though they have much stiffer armour regs then any place i have fought. the demand chain under plate!
My original post however was about the dammage that my armour takes. I fight equaly hard in both steel and rattan, but my armour takes like ten times the dammage from rattan. To give an idea of the power and type of fighting involved, a friend of mine took a shot to the jaw that snapped her 1 inch / 12 once chin strap and took her helm about 9 inches up and in one smooth motion the attacker pommeled her in the face, broke her nose real bad, but that is the worst injury i have ever heard of there. for the most part, the worst injuries are armour bites. how ever i get get mangled regularly fighting with rattan?!?!?!

Looks entertaining...but I don't think I can agree with the heading "steel fought harder than rattan"...unless you're talking about the steel of the ARMOUR of the guy who does the bull rush to slam the guy to the ground. Rattan fighters COULD do that as well....the steel sword has nothing to do with it. Image

What I'm saying is the "hardness" of the fight has nothing to do with the weapons.

While I agree a few shots were definitely harder than we allow in steel in Adria, I also agree with Morgan that it was not a particularly "hard" fight for rattan (I assume you mean hard hitting). Though there is a huge variance depending on who you fight in the SCA.

Who have you been fighting in rattan? How many practices did you go to? Have been able to catch any "high game" fights between Knights and Dukes?

Many people won't ramp up real high if they think you might be pretty new. So I understand your comment may be based on your personal experience, but it may not be generally so. It depends a lot on who you fight with. On the average we tend to be somewhat harder hitting at our practice than I've seen at some of the Allied Gardens practices, possibly because the average calibration was higher on the average when we started playing "way back then".
