Fiebings British Tan leather dye is what I use on my skinless rattan weapon hafts. Not the oil dye- the straight stuff with the evil poison alcohol in it.
I know it sounds impossible, but it blows away wood stain to such a degree as to be laughable. It dries almost instantly, as opposed to wood stain that can take weeks to dry on shaved rattan.
Rub it with a light coat of orange oil or coat it with some type of clear sealant. It looks great, is cheap and can easily be touched up. the more coats the darker and richer it gets.
It will come off on your hands a bit if you play with the weapon without your gauntlets.
There- that's the secret.
Vitus OUT.
