Here are some photos I took. Quite a few archivers in them.

Just a note on this years fireworks display.

During the display, those of you who saw it, may have noticed a pause just before the finale. During that pause a single shell went up and exploded. Then the finale started.

That shell was fired by Duke Sven, Sir Kolfina's Husband. On that shell were the ashes of Kolfina. Not everyone knew the meaning behind the pause and single shell, but rest assured that those of us who did know the meaning yelled "KOLFINNA!" in rememberance during its launch.

That made the fireworks extra special.

Insane if forgot to do this when I briefly meet you.

SQUEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Brewer I am putting the Burninator on my next shield It's automatic now whenever I hear someone say TROGDOR!!! to go in to that stance.

I agree with Violen knowing that about the fireworks show makes it all the more special.

Baron Alenjandro thank you, your comment during the show took my mind off of what the explosions had me thinking about.

Missed meeting you, Halvgrimr. It would have been interesting taking the Ghosts thread into face to face, where we could have been much less...inflammatory. ;)

And the more you kill Violen with his own gear, the happier my Happy Dance will be.

@Irish: I wondered what that was about. Cool.

@Pietro: You better.

For my part, I had a great time in spite of the bad weather. Living just twenty minutes away from site helped me in that regard. ;)

In addition to spending more time with old friends, I got to meet several Archivers for the first time, including Adric and Brewer.

Interestingly, I never took the field in my new 14th century kit the entire war; I did get some field time in my 15th century plate, though. Somebody snapped a photo of me walking away from the field, still partially armed, after a battle, looking weary, dirty, and rather older than I care to look.

There is at least one more photo that was taken at the war which I hope never sees the light of day...

Oh, I donno about that
I would share a beer with almost anyone but as I stated in that particular thread (and several others) I dont much bother anymore trying to convince others what they should beleive, mostly becuase I pretty much despise being told by someone else what it is that I beleive.

Im far to old to give a shit what others think of me or my beleifs at this point.

Wanna talk naked chicks, armour porn or research?....Im all fer it.
Wanna drag out the SIAAD mantle?......best find someone that cares.

I had fun, I flew in thursay and left sunday.
Got to hear my first Tornado siren so that was exciting.
Fighting friday was a blast but the humidity really seemed to kick in that day.

Josh

Was that you that was riding in full kit while sitting upon the tool box in the back of a big ol pick up?

Thought it was but wasnt sure so I didnt say hello

Yep, that was me.

I didn't have anyone to assist me in either arming or with carrying my weapons, etc. that day, so this gentleman in a truck noticed me struggling along the road near the parking lot, half-armed, with an armload of gear and offered to help me out. It was a hot day, so I took him up on it. The guy said his name was Bart. If ever fortune affords me the opportunity to repay his kindness, I will be only too happy to return the favor.

I'd have sought you out to say hello, but I'm not sure I recognize you all kitted up.

I was pretty insular and spent most of Lilies fishing and kayaking, so didn't see a lot of folks. Even as we were repairing tents from saturday morning I had 3 lines in water (as evidenced by the pic below). Can't catch 'em if you're not trying. Had a nice little fish fry on Saturday.

And the fireworks view from a kayak on the lake is PRIMO!!!

HEHE
No problem
FWIW, when I do Lilies I dont really get all kitted up
Normally its standard Lilies gear ..... turnshoes, braise, and a loose fitting aOMGITSFRICKINHOTba

Basically, Lilies is more about comfort and less about 'my persona' for me...at least when I am not on the field

LOL. . . Well, Zach did refer to me as Gollum when I was cackling, hunkered down skinning a catfish on the rocks by the lake. "All fresh and wrrrrrrigggling!"

Moar pick-choors.

Explaining the Dungiven Outfit to Mistress Olga from Ash & Griffin Pottery. See, Josh? You're not the only one who likes 15th century duds! :)

Loving the 14-year-old Italian Greyhound. She's full of love, sweetness and naps. She's only got four teeth or so left, so her tongue lolls out the side of her mouth. Hope she's still around for next Lilies, because I'm totally in lurve with her.

Moar Houndz. In this case, my friends McSorley (foreground, getting butt-scritches) and Rory (who's wondering why I stopped scratching him). Big, sweet Wookies, er, I mean, Irish Wolfhounds.

Lilies is still my favorite event. We got our asses kicked by the weather a little this year, and this week get to see how much stock we lost to the microburst on Saturday, but we had a good time nonetheless. Thanks to the folks at Reconstructing History for helping us get our issues resolved quickly and with gin...

I got to fight in the kids tourney, which is my favorite reason to fight a tourney, and I hope the little girl I fought for, Jackie, had a good time watching even though I hung around in the list long enough to make her miss the sponge fight.

It was a memorable year, and I'm already looking forward to next year.

I'm sorry it was necessary for us to help, though it turned into an adventure which spawned excellent stories. I still feel like singing sea chanties - "Way, haul away, we'll haul away, Joe!"

We'll be by for our t-shirts at Pennsic. ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed the Brewer/Pietro dance rave.

Bob makes a pretty good beat box and Pietro nearly caused an earthquake shaking the Latin Flava Hips.

Of course we all got the dirty look when it outshined the singing circle around the Bonfire.

While I respect your opinion I am of the exact opposite frame of mind.

I HATE Lilies

Now, before the lyncing begins.........

I LOVE hanging out with my household and our friends AT LILIES
I LOVE fighting with buds (both new and old) AT LILIES
I LOVE the comraderie that I get to experience AT LILIES
I LOVE the singing and partying most evenings afford AT LILIES
I LOVE seeing all the A&S displays that only go on DURING LILIES

NOW

I HATE the timing of Lilies (peak storm season in Tornado Alley)

I HATE the oppressive heat of Lilies (normally only lessened by a passing storm)

I HATE that while it was originally intended to be a laid back war that it has become a war where tactics and melee skill are secondary to 'having fun.' (I am of the opinion that an entire battle plan should consist of something more than "GET EM" EVEN when its 'just for fun' but Im old and flakey Im told)

I HATE that Lilies has evolved into something that (at least the locals...ie calontiri) has become an event that makes folks dedicate effort and vacation they would have in the past been spent on a foriegn war to a 'local event' (This is effort and vacation time that could have been spent on a foriegn war where the Calon Host used to stand out as innovators of battle field tactics and melee skill)

So in short, I enjoy the experience but immesely dislike the some of the atmosphere one has to endure for it.

Oh...this is myself and Adric13 pontificating the greater aspects of the universe at Lilies!
