This is going to sound really snobbish, but wow, that is an awful lot of really crappy, unauthentic fantasy armour. Going through all those pictures, I was hard-pressed to find anything from a recognizable time period.
And what's with all the fighters in t-shirts and shorts?

Noe et.al.,
It should be a showcase event for a lot of reasons, but it is not and there are a lot of fighters who leave there pretty stuff at home. Heat, standing in the sun, waiting, long walks to the fight, the desire to be able to fight when you finially get to. It would be nice, but a lot of nice kits stay home (or back inthe tent), because of the attitude that is the biggest problem that arises out of the need to win.
The fun of Pennsic is in the shear size and numbers of eveything. I wish the armor was better too, and I am a very strong supporter of SCA. Still, it has come a long way from a field full of freon cans.

Hmm. This brings to mind an idea that I once had.
How much would you be willing to pay to be able to leave your armour with a caretaker during Pennsic? Say it worked like this: When you arrived at Pennsic, you went to the caretaker camp. For a fee, your armour would be kept in an individual, covered container and guarded. For another fee, you could have your armour dropped off at the battlefield, so you could armour up on the spot. Would you take advantage of such a service?

Man! I would love that! a lot of boglodytes would love it too. the walk to the woods battle is a bear when coming up from the bog! It's especially bad when wearing a full fighting rig. The walk back, dehydrated and weary, is a thousand times worse.
would you be charging by the battle or by the war? What security arrangements would you be able to make? How much would you want to charge? What would the Coopers have to say about it?

Oh come on now, if you squint real hard with just one eye:

these gold spray painted baseball catchers legs almost look like some sort of armour.

Well see...wearing hockey gear is hot...and you don't want to work up a sweat too much... so you use the period solution of shorts and t-shirt.
Your standard are obviously totally unrealistic Noe, next thing you know you will be expecting fighters to wear gambesons and metal plate when they hit the field.
Drop me an email.

I haven't worked most of that out. It was just an idea I had when I was at a war and said, "Gee, wouldn't it be nice if I didn't have to worry about my armour when I was out away from camp." And that led to the thought that I would be willing to pay to not have to walk to the battle in full kit.
I was thinking that if I did this, I would charge one charge for storage and another for each delivery. First I was just wondering if people would be interested in the service.
Yep, Ron, are expectations are probably way too high.
Incidently, does your comment mean that you didn't get the message I sent you last week.

I was really trying to get shots of examples of good garb. (oh well). Let me know what you think.

You would have made a killing this year with this. Why?
Because the numbnutz who moved the battles to 10am didn't consider the fact that the hay wagon doesn't start until 10am. If you're a swampie - you walk it. Only thing about war this year that sucked.

Well, I know for a fact your knight wouldn't _make_ you schlepp anything although he does ask in a reasonably nice way. And he _really_ appreciates the coffee in the morning.
Now, if only he would train you to fight...

I recall that the (then) College (now Shire) of Grey Gargolyes under the leadership of Duke Cariadoc of the Bow and his squire Dain Greymouse ran a service as you described one year at Pennsic (10 years or so ago). They rented a Grimms tent adjacent to the field battle site and watched over individuals armour.
Given that they did not offer it the subsequent year - might be an indication that this is a service that people were not very interested in. On the other hand perhaps they were tired of running the service...

the hidden camera photos exist; a gentle from the east (or is it aethelmarc), installed a small camera in the back of his shield, which takes pictures through a small hole... pretty interesting photos...
video's are fine, many people take them; they can also be a good training tool...

I'm pretty sure my wife and I were standing in camp when this one was taken:

We had just dropped off the Meridian gift bag.
