I just looked through the marshallate handbook on line, and the West Kingdom version, and didn't find a reference to the old prohibition of powerful swings greater than 90 degrees with a two handed weapon anywhere. Did I just miss it, or did the rule get removed? When? How did that happen?
I think it's ultimately a good thing, since it wasn't really enforced, doesn't really prevent excessive force, and prohibits a variety of period techniques.

I'll be darned. Here I was thinking I was all hip to the rules, and I was almost two years behind the times.
So how does something like this get changed? It seems uncharacteristic for the marshallate to remove something that might have made things look safer.
Excessive force, like calibration, is so subjective it's virtually impossible to enforce a standard. I've only been hit a few times with force I'd consider excessive, so it doesn't worry me much, but it's comforting to know there's some upper limit to at least whine about.

Okay, okay, so I forgot "the rule about" in my post, it was a long wet trip.
The first event after the lifting of the 90 degree ban I saw a rising 180 with a great weapon bat someone's helm clear off their head (strapping was in goog shape BEFORE said blow), the perp was NOT given more than minor admonishment. Since it IS rather difficult to judge "excessive force" I think the sanctions should be severe when there is no question as to intent.

P.S. Richard, I do wear a lot of plate, but I'm still a light counter unless the powers above decree "as you wear", at which point I glory in my 3/4" eyeslot

now i say this toung in cheak but I have been told about my helm ( 14 gauge hardened steel reinforced with another layer of 14 gauge hardened steel) that if some one dents it i should go back to my car, get my .45 and shoot them because they mean to harm me. implimenting this as a standard would save the problem.
