Yeah, pretty close. When HRH started fighting He chose that name based on His affinity for the archaeopteryx. He just chopped it a bit. He uses the skeleton as His device. As He developed His persona He just never worked into a period name. His name may not be so period, but He has put a lot of work into His soft kit (hand sewn linen with embroidery - all done by His own and His hard kit isn't too bad either) and the rest of his presence, and His lady-wife, Princess Runa is an awesome bead maker.

His RH has a very good soft kit.
It will be a pleasure seeing and serving TRH to the best of my abilities

It's probably time to pick a new name. He is a new man, and should pick a new name.

And yet you are so quick to judge...While its nice to take such pride in our world, you might want to ask the questions before judging me.
I am not now, nor have I ever, had a device of some ancient beast. My device is a dead Raven. Those who know me know it to be memory and not thought. As far as personas go, Arch means first, and ter is 3. As in my mother had 3 of us baptized by the monk who came through, and I was first. Latin does not always translate easily into runes.
On a side note, HRH likes what I have become with my name, and does not wish for a change.

And thus I stand re-educated.

Congratulations to His Royal Highness of the Middle Kingdom. As another unbelted polearmsman, I am especially excited to see this.
That said...

Effingham did ask. He didn't like the answer, but he did ask.

"Arch" means first in Ancient Greek, not Latin. Greek. Did Roman-Christian monks speak Greek and not Latin? It's possible I'm misinformed in that regard.

I would submit that a man be allowed to chose his own name, and gain wordfame by his own hand to supplement (not replace) that which he has chosen.
That said, the Midrealm Tanist is Arch Teryx. And He need not justify His name to anyone, for His glaive and His inspiration, Princess Runa Kirri, hath ensured that it is marked for evermore in the sacred history of the Midrealm.

I don't see why not - the The Codex Sinaiticus (350 AD) is in Greek, (some book in Hebrew). These books were used in trasnlating into Latin as the East/West Roman Emipre split was ongoing. Makes sense that at least some monks, who did the trasnlating, would speak both.
(Plus, what His Excellency said)...

For every Rule, there is an exception
And to be sure, His Highness is a skilled pole-arm fighter. He as done something no one else has done - won a Middle Kingdom Crown with pole arm as his primary weapon.
