weapon construction

this comes up a lot on the other board I was wondering if it would be worth the time to start organizing and posibly wrighting an essay about this. probibly limit it to swords, maces, great sword and unpaded polearms. covering many of the different matereals used. focusing on the trusing tip styles. maybe even shaping ratan.

A good idea; it should probably be broken first into the various groups' weapons: SCA is very different from ARMA, and then there are the various boffer/LARP outfits. From there you could spread out into various materials and construction techniques, and even perhaps discuss some obsoleted ones -- the SCA, after all, started with swords made of cut-down hockey sticks, and for a time I had what I suspect to have been among the safest of flails that still handled somewhat authentically. I know I'm raising eyebrows among the Marshalate at stringing "safe" and "flail" and "authentic handling" together, but nonetheless, it was so... more or less.

training aids. making real or rebated weapons I think is handled a lot better by people other then me.
