The Tournament of the Phoenix 2010 will be held next weekend, October 22, 23 and 24 at the Poway Valley Rider's Association in Poway California. This year we have 7 competitors-
Jeffrey Hedgecock, USA
Toby Capwell, England/USA
Dominic Sewell, England
Steve Gagnon, Canada
Arne Koets, Holland
Jezz Smith, New Zealand
Andreas Wenzel, Germany
The format this year is a Pas d'Armes. As Tenans, the brothers of the Order of the Crescent (Hedgecock, Capwell, Sewell) will hold the field against the 4 Venans.
As in previous years, the competition will consist of 6 separately scored segments- 4 sessions of jousting, one session of combat on foot with pollaxes, and one session of mounted club combat.
Because this is a pas d'armes, only the Venans (Gagnon, Koets, Smith, Wenzel) will be eligible to win the Phoenix prize. Points will be tabulated for all competitors for IJL ranking.
Other event highlights:
Tirocinium
On Friday, Novice jousters Darth Rimmer and Steve Hemphill have been invited to joust against each other in a tirocinium which we have arranged for them.
Sufficient lances will be provided to allow them to run a number of courses under the watchful eyes of the more experienced knights.
Archery Tournament: Sponsored by the Archers of Ravenwood, the tournament is open to any archer with a traditional bow and a costume. There will be separate contests on Saturday and Sunday, with the winners shooting on Sunday for the Championship and Grand Prize! See the Rangemaster for more details.
A few VIP packages are left. The VIP package includes on field seating for the joust, Premier seating for other events and an invitation to a special VIP Champagne reception with the knights, Marshal, judges and other key people.
We have more activities, more food, more vendors and more stuff to see and do than ever before. Don't miss it! At $15 for a one day pass or $25 for the weekend, this event just may be the most unique, fun and AFFORDABLE event in San Diego!

The DVD will contain the 30-45 minute long video as well as bonus material such as in depth interviews with the competitors and key staff, close ups of the joust breaks, foot combat, club tourney, etc.
A trailer is scheduled to be released in mid-November 2010, and advance sales of the DVD will begin when the trailer is released. Delivery is expected in February 2011.
This DVD is produced in partnership with the Higgins Armory Museum, Worcester Mass. Special thanks to Jeffrey Forgeng, curator for his help in getting this project off the ground .
