Dear Meridies

Post by Vitus von Atzinger »

I just want to tell you guys how much the fighters of the Barony of the Flame love playing with you guys. The spearmen of Gleann Abhann never cease to amaze me- I had so much fun dueling with you guys at Border Raids. You had so many amazing-looking fighters in your ranks- it's always a pleasure to stand across from you OR beside you in battle.
Now, I have to apologize. You seemed to have two types of javelins coming from your ranks- one is really light and just didn't land with any force at all. It was like being hit with a paper towel roll. I apparently was directly hit by more than one during one bridge battle (I could have sworn one came near, but I thought I brushed it away enough). I was really pumped and I may have missed a direct hit.
The other type of javelin apparently -according to some pals- hits like a Louisville Slugger baseball bat. I am truly glad that I was not hit by one of these, and after hearing about it- I am thankful that the javelins that were being thrown at me were not lethal tools of Satan. I will remind all that read this that I was ordered to res point after missing a javelin blow, which I swear on my spurs was not as hard as a regular single handed thrust. However, I also have a new breastplate, so I very-well could have just fudged the whole thing up. I went back to res point happily after being chastised, and I hope I didn't make anyone mad.
I had great fun, and I hope you all did too! The Midrealm wants to be compatible with our playmates, so if there are ever any problems with calibration differences or force levels, please tell us.
I love and admire you guys.

Sir Vitus,

After attending many, many of these little skirmishes, I have to say that this was my favorite Border Raids, ever. The Midrealm fighters were both formidable and honorable foes, and I enjoyed myself immensely. We were also pleased this year that our Legion of the Bear was finally able to give your Red Company the challenge they richly deserved. I personally thought the calibration was just fine this year, at least in all the engagements I entered.

I am afraid that the baseball-bats-of-Satan were probably mine. They are based on the pilum-style design developed in Calontir, and are PVC-constructed throw-only weapons. They do hit with considerable more authority than the thrust-and-throw siloflex kind, and our Meridian Majesty was rather accurate with them.

My thanks to all your companions for a very satisfactory year!

Dear Vitus,

It could be someone threw a javelin backwards at your friend. I kept hearing our side yelling, "Other end!" I understand they hit a lot harder that way. Either way, it's safe to blame Bri. :-)

I had a great time, too! If it makes you feel any better, I thought that shot to your helmet that you called from me in the first field battle was on the light side of good. Heck, it did little better than fan your helmet. I was re-cocking for the second one when you said 'good'.

I'll see you next year.

Regards,

Conal

this was my first Border raids...

very much a fun event.
from
flanking into Calontir with Duke Rangvaldr to switching sides and running into one of our own on his knees in front of the shield wall during a charge:-D the fighting was a blast!

maybe I can talk to Vitus and get some barrier combat going for the next one:-D

Well Conal, when a man who can deafen you with a blow chooses not to out of courtesy and grace- I think it's a good idea not to tempt him. I was busted and pinned down on every side.

Dude, I think I line up almost next to you in the field battles.

I couldn't believe the weather. After all the griping I did about how hot this event is, it was as close to perfect as it could get.

A startling number of people recognised me from this board. Don't know if that's a good thing or not...

Aside from the folks I get to see all the time, I got to talk to Freiman face-to-face for the first time in about ten years and I got to get a really cool bruise from Ulrich.

Too bad I couldn't stick around, my ride wanted to get home. He's been married all of a week and seemed to be missing his new bride.

It's the name Marvin, you just don't run into too many Marvin's in the SCA. where as we Ulrich's are a dime a dozen.

Nice fighting you though...sorry about the bruise. Image

and your right, thats was by far the best weathered Border Raids I've ever been to. I think that helped the fighting as well.

Can't help the name, I was born with it. Middle one's even worse. When it came time to pick a persona name I ust grabbed one close and ran with it - but I still get called by my mundane name most times.

Oh, the bruise is just colorful, you're gonna have to do better if you want to beat the one Caspar left on me. Image

Conal, I walked by and said "hi" but you were engaged in one of those High-Level Command Meetings. I went looking for you for pickups after Caspar and Cona got done with me (I was going in alphabetical order Image) but you looked like you were done for the day. So Ulrich stepped into your place most proficiently if somewhat un-alphabetically.

Come to think of it - I probably just blended into the general crush of Gleann Abhann tabards. I'm gonna have to get some falshier stuff.

And, like I said, Iain really wanted to get home. So we took off about 5:00. Except for the 5 hours of sleep we got on the way, we all but day-tripped the event. From Little Rock.

>>Edited after reading the Off Topics Board<<<

I can prove I was there! - Look at Steve's pictures. In Image034 I'm on the bridge just left of center (the short-legged guy trailing the charge - Gleann Abhann colors).
I'm just about to put my shield in some guy's back and shove. Sorry dude - we needed territory more than kills at that moment.

Well what do you expect, it's my job to step in for Conal when he's unavailable. and well I've never been known for my abilities to alphabetize well.

Sorry the bruise wasnt better...but I didn't want to show up Caspar, its not nice to one up Meridies' newest knight. Image

Yeah, that sounds like me. :-)

Sorry I didn't hear you, Dude. I did talk with Iain a couple of times, though. So, that's close enough, right?

I guess I'll see you at Diamonds. I'll make sure I'm paying attention, this time.

Regards,

Conal
