Are those lag bolts welded to hex stock?

Nice.

Can you elaborate on how you made the handle?

Also, is it shaped rattan. One of the pictures looks like it might be.

Morning Dread Lord,
If you made that specifically for our duel at Gulf Wars, I'm flattered. If not, that's still going to be fun as hell to fight against.

Either way, win. :D

Cheers,

Dietrich

Beautiful weapon, Nissan! I'll be bringing my 6-footer, too. It's nowhere near as cool-looking as yours, I'm afraid.

Its for you. My other great sword is accesorized for nip wear, so I needed one to match the outfit I will be wearing when we fight.

Yes, I have seen that picture. But that does not mean that this sword was constructed in that manner. The illustration deals with making a type 17.

Type 17
http://www.algonet.se/~enda/oakeshott_eng.htm
Type XVII characteristics: The blade of this type is long, slender and acutely tapering. The cross-section is generally hexagonal. Many examples have a shallow fuller in the upper quarter of the blade. The grip is always long, allowing two-handed use. It was in use between c. 1360 and the 1420's, and was probably designed for punching through armour. The swords of this type were generally very stout, and could weigh as much as 5.5 lbs. (compared to the 3.5 to 4 lbs. of the XIIIa). This makes Oakeshott believe that these swords were used for cracking plate armour.

I can see that is the pattern he used.

17 is my own designation for that pattern based on the similarity to the Oakshott type XVII (and to differenciate it from the other patterns which I sell).

Vladimir,
The beat stick has an octagonal cross section tapering from 2.75 at the hilt to 1.25 at the tip. It has a distal taper from 1.5 at the hilt to 1.25 at the tip.

It is made in a manner similar to the illustration except that pieces have been added back to form the thick section of the hilt.

Very cool. I especially like that you have both a linear taper and a distal taper.

I had a chance to handle the long sword you made for Susanna the Short and I have to say it had the most real sword like feel of any piece of rattan I've ever held.

I can't wait to see this up close and personal.
