REVIEW: Albion Armorers

All:

I have had dealings with Albion Armorers on a number of occasions, but have never taken the opportunity to sit down and write about it. For those of you who don't know of them, they are makers and sellers of high-quality armour (suitable for Living History) and arms of some of the highest quality on the market.

Earlier in the summer, I ordered a Danish axe head from them.

Communication with them was a joy--particularly when dealing with Hal Sigman. E-mail questions about the products, cost and shipping were frequently answered within the hour of sending them, and merchandise was either exactly as advertised or better than advertized.

I am now in possession of an Angus Trim bare sword blade (Oakeshott Type XI). Quality, weight and design is much better than my prized Del Tin, and the steel seems even better tempered than the Krups CK44 in my Del Tin. Overall, I'm quite pleased, and would recommend them with highest marks for communication, quality of merchandise and speed of delivery.

BTW--whoever the nice person that ordered the bare blade for me...thanks!

I was also very pleased with their axes -- I wish they'd get more back in stock! -- the cutting edge was tilted slightly, but less so than most quantity-made axeheads... but unlike most of those, the steel was truly first-class. If I really wanted to, I could get that axe to cut sunlight...

Do they make the ax heads with rebated blades? I'm looking for one for regia combat that won't kill me with shipping costs (form Great Britain).

The artisan formerly known as Willing Pell, then Juan Santell and then Willing Pell again. Hey, Prince could do it, why not me?

Juan:

My only suggestion is for you to contact Albion, and look at their webpage. Perhaps they have something in stock, perhaps they have something that can be modified--I don't know, but I think your answers would be better answered by them, rather than us.

Their contact is Hal Sigman, and their e-mail is quest@albionarmorers.com.

Looking at their webpage, I couldn't find the axes (using the new format), so I did a Google search, and they still have them, but they don't have a lot of them in stock, I'd noticed. In the post above, I provided a link to the Axe page--perhaps they have something of what you need.
