Looks like it, IMHO. Don't know how long it will last, though.

Looks good I've used a wooden shield for years...
It might not last long it depends on its thickness and grain direction.

I agree it looks legal, I would recommend an edging of some kind to extend the life. I would ask what the thickness is first.

Their other shields are 1/2" plywood so one could assume the same here. Of course, what kind of plywood? And 50" to me seems rather long. I'm 5"10" and placing the bottom of the shield on my knee cop, the top would 4" over my head...

This is not for regular tournament use, but for a very specific sub-event at Pennsic... The historical feel look and use would be as important as the functionality, even if it ends up as a handicap....

Then I don't see why it wouldn't serve your purposes. Of course, you could save yourself money and buy one from the guy selling wooden shields here on the Archive... I mean, why pay double? And for some reason, that shield just doesn't seem to have the right dimensions for a true Norman kite.

you could talk to Syr Kazimir... He has a post in the Classifieds.

I'm in his queue for an Elliptical shaped shield. Price is good IMO for what he's offering for a period looking shield...

Aidan beat me to it, but the shields Sir Kaz are making are well made and very durable. The ones he has made for his and others' use for been canvas covered so I'm sure you can work that out with him.

Sir Kazimir is checking out whether we can work with these dimensions.
I asked him first
David, Why doesn't it. In fact it looks right one the money for me, that is why it caught my attention....

Alright, after looking at them side by side I guess my memory failed me again.

Yeah, that'll work. I don't care for the pointy end at the bottom personally, but other than that it looks ok. I wonder how it's strapped? If you end up getting one please post pics! Did you look at the other kite shield on KoA?

More expensive but it already has straps and leather edging. And it comes in three colors!

Battle of Hastings? I can just bring you a 6'daneaxe and you can fight for the Saxons...... Problem solved!

well...it says right in the add Suitable for light combat...if you want to use it do it but I wouldn't expect it to last.... If all you want is one outing with it and it doesn't last very long then go for it...

If you have the shop space you could take the DIY approce, A shield press and some 1/4 marine grade birch Ply, Tiebone III would let you make a few for you and a friend.
The first one would be about even money, but would give you enuff material to make several shields.

Alas,
I have neither the shop space or more importantly the time to try. And for the money I'd spend on the materials, (and then a second set of materials after I ruined the first one) I rather have someone who knows what he is doing make it.
Luckily Sir Kazimir may be coming to the rescue....
Alric, as for Hastings, I would not follow an oath-breaker, excommunicated by the Pope, even if I were not a wereNorman... (who becomes a Norman on full moon nights and Wednesdays at Pennsic...)
(Not unlike the dog of the Carmelite Nunnery, who on full moon nights became a handsome man....)
