Best Dressed Fighting Kingdom/Unit?

Who really makes an impression? Who gets your vote for #1 for the best overall looking army? How about the worst?

I give props to Atlantia (of course), Calontir, with Northshield in #1 (I'm biased...they wear my colors..well expect for the white, but 2 out of 3 ain't bad...)

Last place? Hate to say it guys, but the East is in dead last. More ugly exposed plastic armour there than I can shake a stick at...

Hmm. I would like to say An Tir, but I would be lying. Although when we use our kingdom tabards I think we look pretty good.....checky or/argent.

However, in my experience I would have to go with...

#1 : Caid
#2 : Calontir

On an individual basis I wuld say that Atlantia are some of the best-looking fighters in the world. Caid is also full of great-looking fighters. Units? I will have to think about that....

Personaly, I'd say that Sir Eddie from Aarnimetsa (Drachenwald) and his squires look pretty damm good, I like the idea of THe knight and squires all having a 'uniform' of soem type, and it works for the peroid that they are doing.

Well of course... but we're focusing on the kit.

Calontir and the Middle. Uniform surcoats and tabards go a long way in making a unit look good on the field.

Luckily enough, Caid and Atlantia, my two homes.

even uniform tabards can't hide butt-ugly armour...

Best Dressed Fighting Kingdom/Unit?

I would say any unit I am fighting with Image. But that is because I have wool chausses and a wool tunic on. Adam's (WMA) spiffy 15th century kettle helm with a Forths coif under it got lots of attention on the field at Pennsic.

Only 2 picture I have, I am in the red legs:

http://home.armourarchive.org/members/flonzy/images/Pennsic2003/full/Image04.jpg

Seriously though I saw some damn fine kits from all over at Pennsic but over all I do feel Atlantia brings a nice feel to the field.

Well everyone is talking about armour and clothing but I say to get an "overall" look on the field you must ACT like an army as well. when you add that factor in my vote goes as such:

1. Calontir-tabards and melee romaneque tactics
2. Middle-tabards/surcoats and melee large unit tactics.

Those 2 when seen on the field or fighting with or against really increase my "visual" of an army.

I'd say Caid has the best-dressed fighters. I've been impressed by a lot of folks from Atlantia and Middle. Atenveldt is quite well-outfitted, too, especially the Landskenechts. Outlands has Kragon ..

I confess that I don't get the Calontir look at all. The sea of purple lacks any aesthetic draw for me -- looks like a football team instead of an array of knights and men-at-arms. Sorry guys. I am not a tabard kind of guy, I guess. (I do think Sheridan's kit is kick ass, though).

I depise wearing tabards as well. Hate it. I gotta do it all the time, but I don't like it.

Yup, me too. But it is more a question of the crappy design of tabards than wearing another heraldry. I wear Baronial Colors now at wars, as I once wore my own, or those of my knight.

To me it isn't the trappings that i'm wearing, it's the heart inside.

I think what I admire about Calontir is thier espree, more than anything.

Vitus, et al, the tabards are ok for folks who don't have any other "Colors", but I think that a better solution is to make fighting clothes appropriate to your period that show the colors. You still get unit identification, but a better individual look.

I don't like SCA style tabards either. Now If I have time before the next war I go to I will make my own livery coat for my barony so I can still be part of the unit and look good.

I never liked wearing the Tabard either that is why I made a fighting tunic in Calontir Colors. Purple with gold trim. Now I am Identifiable w/ my kingdom and still get to show off my lammallar and am still identifiable with Calontir. I see more and more of this sort of thing happening in Calontir.

Hate to say it but while Calontir does look good no one ever saw a Huscarl wear a tabbard. Terribly un-period for a Huscarl Image

The best individual kits i've seen seem to come from the West.

I think that the Northern Army and von Drachenklaue are starting to look much better. The West almost always looks good too.

I hate the tabard look personally. I can make myself look like part of the team without having to throw a jersey on- thank you very much.

The worst looking unit has to be that bunch of guys who wear a lot of red and black, and carry heater shields. Ebonblood Wolfguard. I think they are either from Atlantia or the East- it has to be one of those kingdoms where they all wear stainless armor. They do seem to have nice tabards though.

the last reign had a rose royal turney format for each of the royal progress events. the people that compeated I would say are teh best dressed unit.
even thought it was single combat turney.
aethealmearc.
althought I would say a lot of the populace needs to do some major renavations on there kit.

For best looking group presentation on the field, I vote for House Leonthas, out of the Midrealm.

--Right, dispite the common misperception, not all of us wear purple tabbards, I have other things I wear to denote my affiliation (though occasionally if I forget one of my accessories I do borrow a tabbard from someone)

Besides, us Calontir huscarls bleed purple (its a requirement), so when the shit comes down and we are at the forefront, swinging and bleeding, it is easy to deterimine our affiliation Image

For appearance on the field, The Orkneys of Caid have a great look. Serious intimidation and a hard hitting crew as well.

The Hoplites out of Trimaris look good (Odo what's their name?). You always know where Calontir and Midrealm are on the battle field. There are great individual kits in every Kingdom and as a whole I think the SCA is getting better. Depends on your taste as to what you like. I like the look of allot of the Nothern Warband of Meridies. They are all early period peronas and dress that way. Do the look like a unit? Not really, but they do like like an early period group.
