not sure about all the talk about powerful shots since basically hes throwing with only his wrist not driving shots through. i refer to that kind of shot as "fly fishing". but heym he nailed it on the head when he admits there are as many ways to throw a shot as there are different body types. if it works for him.....

peikko, was it "horrible" because its simply not hema stuff?

Did anyone see the two of them at Pennsic? It sounds like they are fun to have around.

 no, not that. I love the SCA and Pennsic holds a special place in my heart.

the actual filming was just a bit naff and dated...as well as being a bit over the top.

Your Grace,

Correct me if I am wrong, but i thought you had once advocated not needing to drive with your hip, that power generation could be created at sufficient levels by closing your hand? perhaps I am completely on crack with this or it is an over simplification of something you had once said.

I also note after watching the video, he may not drive with his hip, but it is most certainly partially involved in the shots.

I met GA on the last day of Pennsic, he happened to be checking in regarding transportation home at a camp I was briefly visiting. I've known Zorich for years.

Did it look like GA had fun? He seems like a great guy from the videos and it would be a royal bummer (bad pun, sorry) if GA didn't race back to NYC with a happy memories.

sort of. what i teach is about closing your hand at the right moment much like the way framers swing hammers. in the video his hand closes well before the blow lands (and he never mentions how important that is).

Thanks for posting the link to the YouTube channel for my "Return to Pennsic" video project. Yes, much to his own surprise, G.A. had a great time at Pennsic. As a life coach, fitness professional, and former champion pro wrestler he found a whole lot of the SCA to be quite fascinating. His interview with Duke Paul revealed some remarkable things I had not even guessed at, and the the other interviewees, including Countess Tangwystl, King Morgan of Northshield, Baron Sir Mitchell McBain, Duke and Duchess Randall and Katherine, Queen Seonaid of Atlantia, the Viceroy and Vicereine of Ostgardr, Sir Bohemond, and more, provided amazing insight into the game we play.

The merchants and craftspeople who provided garb and accoutrements for G.A. were all very generous and we could not have done the project without them.

Wolgemut even allowed us to use some of their music!

We are very grateful to the Pennsic staff who permitted us to engage in this project, the people who volunteered and agreed to be interviewed, the merchants and craftspeople who contributed items, the people who provided and held cameras and gave technical support for us, the contributors to our Indiegogo campaign, and of course to the whole history of the SCA for existing long and gloriously enough for Pennsic XL to happen!

I will be posting video samples and previews as I work on the project, which I hope to have ready by Christmas.

Here's the latest little video from this project. G.A. West and I sat down in Times Square (the location of our original promo video) and started discussing our impressions of Pennsic XL.

Since I have been laid off due to damage to my office from Hurricn Sandy, I have been able to continue apace with the editing of "Return to Pennsic."

I recently posted a video of interviews with Duke Paul of Bellatrix inwhich he discusses SCA combat skills, how he developed his techniques, and other, related matters. I would love to hear what you think of what he says.

I have gotten word that the "REturn to Pennsic" video documentary is OK in the eyes of the SCA official whose job it is to review my video and say it is OK.

Just a little polishing and cleaning up some rights and permissions and it will be available soon!

"Return to Pennsic" has been released in the form of a "Preview Edition." this edition contains the entire 113-minute documentary and a coupon for $8 off any successive version of "Return to Pennsic" that I release. Once the print run of this edition is gone, it will never be released again.

I intend to release a "Royal Edition" in time for the holidays that will have more features and perhaps some tweaks based on feedback from those who have seen the preview edition.

The price for this edition is $14.95 + $2.50 P&H, and you cna order it throuh PayPal from the website:

http://www.captainzorikh.com/returntopennsic

This documentary includes interviews with over a half-dozen current and former royals and many other significant people, footage of all the major battles, a first-timer shopping at Pennsic to get himself fully-kitted out, the knighting of Sir Oscad, discussions on what it means to be a knight and a king in the SCA, fighting in the SCA, the origins of the SCA and Pennsic, what has changed and what has stayed the same in the past 20 years at Pennsic, and much more.

This was a great adventure for me and G.A. West (who is now in training camp for the pro wrestling company TNA), and we hope you enjoy it and find it as enlightening as as we did!
