Rat doesn't have any convictions worth hearing about. He is barely audible.

Perhaps we can convince the Drachenwald Royals to set up a collection to pay for this man's ransom, I mean fine?
I'd be happy to contribute from here.
Think about how much honor and renown the SCA would gain by showing deference to this valiant gentleman....

I am against interfering with Mundane law. (as much as I may find the mans actions amusing/laudable)

agreed....all this to avoid a £25 fine/fee
one hopes the resulting £300 suits him better.

I think its awesome the judge charged him 300 instead of the 25, for being so lame.
Come on samurai swords.

I think it's amazing that people think a £25 fine for NOT using a vehicle you own on the road is reasonable.

Too bad the court refused it. SCAdians and reenactors would have quite an advantage!

Meh...that's the law. If it was an issue, enough of us would make use of the democratic process to do something about it.

I think its amazing that people think fighting to the death over a £25 fine is reasonable.

Yep, I might be tempted to fight over £300 but not over £25...that's pocket change.

But, making the challenge is a wonderful way of pointing out how ludicrous and arbitrary the law sometimes is.

I believe you are mistaken. Not a single poster has suggested it is reasonable.

Awesome, yes. But not one has called it reasonable.
Reasonable is almost never awesome

Gavin, if it was reasonable then everyone would do it and it would not be awesome.

The fight should be to first blood drawn... not to the death. But then it would depend how good the first blow that hits was.
Who would the court pick as a champion? Would it have to be a local guy or could they get a SAS guy to come in and fight him?

Of course it would make sense for the Insular fighters to come up to defend the Queen's cause in this matter, since the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is an official representative of the Crown. I presume that our inclination, being former colonials -and feeling therefore a kinship to Guyennois and Gascon attitudes- , is to support the Barons in limiting King John's authority to fine this individual gentle, or at least to allow him an honorable defense.
But Alas, I notice now that the news is from 2002, almost 10 years old, so the point is moot.

I think you missed the point. He wasn't offering to fight over a £25 fine, he was offering to fight over principle. I won't put a price on that, and obviously, he won't either.

Why wouldn't it be reasonable. There were duels in France (to 1st blood) as late as the 1960s some fought over less, a perceived insult (or they just didn't like each other) etc.
