Phew!

My net connection has been just horrid this week, so uploads weren't working and I had to find links online. Yay Facebook!

Thanks for the complements, but really kudos go to the armourers, whom, by the way were the two best armourers (Jeff and Jiri, that is) I have EVER worked with. Not just in their craft, but their professionalism and communication. Jiri did a great job of matching the details on Jeff's work with the hinges and buckles, too.

As to fencing, well, come to WMAW next year, or this year's Armizare Academy! ;) You can see the bout on YouTube, btw, as well as Bernard beating me senseless with the poleaxe. That was a really fun bout, but had two vital lessons: 1) I hadn't trained and fought with the axe in awhile, 2) I hadn't used it in my piggy, and was not ready for when completely disappeared from my field of vision off my right shoulder!

Ohhh, a Anshelm cuirass, very nice.

I’m going to say my recent purchase of an Anshelm bascinet with klappvisor is directly related to your sales pitch, Maitresse, albeit via the pitch that only specific armourers are truly capable of producing period lines on their armour.
So, see, you made me purchase it, and even though I sold my second liver to finance this beautiful creation, I’m well content with said sacrifice.

Yes, well, Christian and I walked into the booth to say hello to Gareth, and he walked out with a pair of Schynbalds and I left with the cuirass.

And, yes, Tasha used that same line on us. ;) It didn't cost me a liver, just a kidney.

The latest incarnation of my alWyte harness. The grand bascinet is a very kind loan from Graham Turner, as my jousting helm is still under construction.

Well Tasha, I would hardly underestimate the power of a pretty face, but must take some credit for this as well.

I believe I may have had some influence with some words of encouragement, such as:

"I'll never speak to you again if you don't buy that."

"Everyone at CSG will know you're a loser if you don't."

You know, brotherly love kinda stuff. ;)

Dont really post a lot on here but I'm often connected to this forum by the hip so what the hell here we go. This is my first attempt at a Heavy SCA kit, made it over the course of 2 months from the skin out (with the exception of the shoes and helmet, everything else I sewed or fabricated) for just turning 21 I am fairly proud of it. Since the photo I trimmed down the aventail a bit, made a bar grill for practices and have some greaves in the works as we speak! All in all there is a lot with it I dont like such as the helmet, which I'll probably be trying to make a new one myself after clearing out my order ques (In 6 months I have gotten 3 friends on the field armoured up...if I cut another splint I'll probably have an anneurism ).

Well without further ado here's my attempt at a 1351 kit, maybe one day I'll fight in the 30!

I'd love any helpful criticism on it

Pretty damn good for a first kit to be honest. Three things stand out to me.

Stand up straight!

Your vambraces are a little fat at the bottom. Could just be a strapping issue or too much material down there but more taper will give you a better fit. More cone, less tube shaped if that makes sense.

And you need a belt.

Thanks Isabella!
never had someone call out a kit for bad posture, but it did make me giggle.

the vambraces are a little funky, I wanted them to overlap but the leather itself is 12oz and I think way overkill for the intended purpose, also the rerebraces being too short drives me insane (should just busted out the tape measure and not eye balled it). Though this is sort of my "get on the field and fighting kit". right now I am working on an alwhyte harness, got some good practice in making this for a friend.

Image

Image

the plan right now is just get fighting and get more harness time in (while also not looking like a dumpy trash can) and slowly phase this kit out into a blackened hanress circa 1400 Italy.

If you want to make tweaks you could probably take the straps off and trim the leather a bit for a better fit. Also, if you curve the top and bottom it will give you a better shape around the wrists. The first vambraces I bought were too long and not tapered enough and generally just did not work. I made 2 pairs myself and some of the best advice I got was here on the Archive from someone with those same points.

You already look better than probably 50% of SCA fighters in general.

Like the kit Johnameyer. A great starting kit, especially as you made it all yourself. Isabella's posture comment holds water I think. Standing confidently will make a good kit stand out more, as it fulfills the image of a heroic knight that little bit more.

A quick note on the cuirass you've made (which looks cool): All cuirasses should overlap front to back on both sides. Otherwise, lance strikes will catch on the backplate and completely destroy it.

Swapped out kettle helm. Really loving the new helm (it's Adam's work .. not surprised how well it fits and is soo durable). Nothing major otherwise ... a couple of front and back pics after I'd dropped the full maille haubergeon due to the (90F+) heat, so ya'll can spot me at Pennsic (next event I'll be able to hit) on the pickup fields ... I'll be out there from Thurs thru Sunday of first week.
(p.s. Kaos .. I sooo want to be you when I change focus!)

I like it... the fun theme is totally cool. But you got to do your foot gear as well to make it really pop. Get some moccasin boots or something.

Yup. If I'd have only known that movie was coming out years later, I'd have rethought my heraldry. As it is now .. in just about every melee I have at least one opposing spearman dueling away who will spot me coming up and hollar out 'Squirrel!!!' and throw a shot or three ...

Yeah .. I suppose I asked for it ...
