Was there a specific reason you didn't have a bevor?

Simply because I don't yet own one that I'm happy with. I was offered several to try, but I'm a firm believer that if something doesn't fit exactly it's going to do more harm than good. After the first day, and a blood lip, I simply upped my game and managed to avoid any further lower face injuries. The amount of paintings that show just maille and no bevor suggests that this is a period solution to the problem as well.

thanks, it is shaped steel. My most recent kit pictures are from a demo on september 8th, here's a pic from a few days earlier when I was working on the faux slashes around brow/sides. It still needs a bit of cosmetic work to be finished, but is functional as is.

here's another pic from the same day... I have absolutely no idea what either don Jehan or I am doing here, or why there is a dagger levitating in front of my throat.
Image

...and one more because I really like how the back of this doublet turned out. The slashes open and close a bit when I breath, which was unintended but kind of cool.

I'd like to add a blackened maille drape for my helm. Etched stainless plates to go over the maille. Eventually maille chauses and etched knees. As of now the biker boots will have to suffice until I can afford better.

I have to ask what timeframe and location are you going for? Looks almost Ottoman or Pole?

I feel somewhat successful then, it is in fact Ottoman. I'm going for kinda sorta something around the second half of the 15th.

I'm still narrowing things down some, the hardest part is finding proper bling. I've been compiling some images of belt fittings, armour hardware and such. Now to find the money and a craftsman who can do it, or when time allows attempt it myself.

They are clamshells that a buddy of mine here in Starkhafn made me, he made me a pair with a metal cuff that didn't work with my bazubands, so he started over, made a leather cuff with splints that has buckles underneath so I can get them over my Bazi's.

I made most of them myself in the shop of the Late Master Gregory :) The blade is a 45" rapier blade from Darkwood.
Antonio wrote:And just HOW bad is your vision?
It feels a little restricted, but is surprisingly good (or maybe just a lot better than I expected)... and besides, I kind of figure that fencing with slightly restricted vision will mostly make me a better fencer (we used to do blindfolded and restricted vision parry drills at a historical fencing and WMA study group I used to go to). I thought I would have trouble with lowline shots, but have not. So far ventilation has been a much bigger concern than vision.

thanks you and thanks to everyone else for the compliments... its been a lot of work. If I was wearing different footwear I'd be able to say I made every bit of my kit except for the gloves, fencing jacket, and blade on the "estoc". the bunch of you probably just motivated me to get to work on the trunk hose I've been planning to match the doublet and lower hose.

While I do like that stylized B/W shot, I'd love to see some in color. I'm trying to get a 14th cent rig together and wanted to see your CoP better.
